Reports to: Head of DTC
Team: A senior individual-contributor seat today, working alongside specialist peers on other paid channels. Built to grow.
Budget: Eight figures a year in working media. The majority is Meta, and that is where you will live.
Location: Remote, async-first.
Why the role exists:
We are a pioneer science-backed bedding brand, healthy everywhere except the thing that decides the next stage: we are not finding enough new people, and the ones we find cost more. Retention is strong and carrying growth. The front door is not keeping pace.
Efficiency is on target. Customer volume is not. That is the job.
Creative volume is not our constraint either. We produce plenty, and the win rate has fallen anyway. What is missing is someone reading the account closely enough to tell creative what to make next. This seat is where that stops.
What you own
Hands on keyboard:
- Meta. The majority of the media you buy, in the account daily. This is the centre of the job, not one channel among several.
- Paid social. TikTok and the tail as each earns its place. You own the diversification call.
- The learning loop, daily. You are in the account every day, and you are the person who turns what happened into a brief. Which hook held and which died. Which angle is fatiguing. Which audience stopped responding. What to make more of, what to stop, and why. Creative does not read the account. If you do not carry it back, nobody does.
Also yours:
- New customers and what they cost. This is the number.
- The measurement read. We do not have one yet. See below.
- The testing roadmap, and the efficiency ceiling held.
- What you don't own
- Creative. Message, concepts and production sit with a peer. You brief, you feed back, you argue. No creative team inside media.
- Brand media. Brand budgets and targets are set separately. You share ad accounts, pixel and data layer, and work to agreed audience exclusions so we never bid against ourselves.
- Paid search. Runs alongside you as a peer channel with its own specialist. You are expected to be fluent enough to have a view, and to coordinate so the two channels never work against each other.
- Amazon. Managed separately.
Where this goes:
We are deliberate about hiring this as a senior individual-contributor seat: we would rather bring in an exceptional operator and grow the scope around them than hand out a title first. For the right person, this seat is the foundation of our paid media function — and the path to leading it.
Measurement: what exists and what you build:
What you inherit. Meta Ads Manager and Google Ads. Shopify and ShopifyQL as the truth on revenue and new customers. An internal DTC dashboard that is our most accurate revenue tracker. Ad-level creative analysis tooling, server-side tracking, onsite testing, and brand-health tracking are all in place. We are moving to a multi-touch attribution and incrementality platform; you will be the person who makes it useful.
First 12 months:
- New customers up, cost per new customer flat or down
- Multi-touch attribution live and trusted, plus a defensible incrementality read built on a test you designed
- Meaningfully less dependence on discount-led acquisition
- Creative win rate up, achieved through a peer you do not manage and through briefs built on account data, not opinion
- Paid social diversified beyond Meta with evidence, not hope
- The efficiency ceiling held throughout
Must have:
- Currently hands-on in Meta Ads Manager, daily, this year
- In-house, brand side. You have owned a brand's spend as an employee, accountable for the number. Not a client roster
- Scaled a consumer brand past $20M DTC in the seat
- Prospecting at scale. Opened new audiences, not optimised retargeting
- Paid social breadth beyond Meta, TikTok at minimum
- Measurement literacy with proof. Hands-on with a multi-touch attribution and incrementality platform, and you have designed a test yourself — geo holdout or matched market. Be ready to walk through the design, not the dashboard
- Has operated under an efficiency ceiling someone else set
- Has managed people and made them better. You will not have reports on day one — but the growth path is real, and it assumes you have led before
- Evidence you have run a creative feedback loop. Not "I asked the team for more UGC." A specific read you made from account data that changed what got made next, and what it did to performance
- Comfortable that creative direction belongs to a peer
Bonus, not required:
- Paid search experience. You will coordinate closely with our search channel, and having sat in that seat yourself makes it a great deal easier
- Creator whitelisting at scale. A meaningful share of our spend runs through creator whitelisting. Real experience there compounds fast
Not a fit if:
- Your career is agency-only, with no in-house accountability for a brand's number
- You treat measurement as someone else's job
- You cannot say what you would stop doing
- You answer a performance problem by asking for more creative. Volume is not our constraint. Diagnosis is
- You need to own creative to be effective
Terms, stated up front:
- This is a full-time, exclusive role: Rest is your only commercial commitment, confirmed in writing
- We work async-first — async means flexibility in when you work, not ambiguity about whether you are working. This is a real full-time commitment
- You will have a written outcome plan from week one, against the numbers above — so success is defined on day one, not discovered in a review
