The Ralph is the UK’s largest independent multidisciplinary specialist referral centre. Based in Marlow, Buckinghamshire, we are a busy hospital with around 260 team members and a broad specialist caseload.
We are looking for a Senior Oncology Clinician to join our friendly and collaborative Oncology team.
Our preference is for an ECVIM-CA or ACVIM Diplomate in Oncology, or equivalent. We also welcome applications from residency-trained and board-eligible oncologists.
We would ideally like our new colleague to join us around February 2027, although there is flexibility for the right person.
Our Oncology service
You will join an established Oncology service alongside two other oncologists, supported by our dedicated Oncology nursing team.
We see a broad medical oncology caseload, including urgent and less urgent referrals. Our service offers conventional and metronomic chemotherapy, targeted molecular therapies, immunotherapy and electrochemotherapy. The service is well equipped for chemotherapy administration, with on-site electrochemotherapy.
Our multidisciplinary setting is a major part of the role. Oncology works particularly closely with Diagnostic Imaging and Surgery, with ready access to specialists across Internal Medicine, Anaesthesia and Analgesia, Cardiology, Neurology and Neurosurgery, Ophthalmology, Orthopaedics and other services.
We also have a well-established, Diplomate-led Emergency and Critical Care service operating 24/7/365. This provides valuable support for Oncology patients who become acutely unwell or need care outside normal working hours.
The person we are looking for
We are looking for an experienced oncologist who combines strong clinical judgement with a collaborative and compassionate approach to patient care.
You will be comfortable managing complex oncology cases, communicating clearly with carers and working closely with colleagues across a large multidisciplinary hospital.
We value clinicians who are kind and team-minded. A willingness to share knowledge and support colleagues also matters.
There will be scope to contribute your ideas and experience to the continuing development of our Oncology service.
Working pattern and on-call
Full-time at The Ralph is four days per week. Our preference is for a full-time appointment, although we are happy to discuss part-time arrangements with the right person.
Our senior Oncology clinicians share the weekend and Bank Holiday on-call rota equally. The Oncology on-call commitment is almost entirely remote. Our Emergency and Critical Care team manages patients within the hospital out of hours, with the oncologist available to provide specialist advice and support. On-site attendance is very rarely required.
We offer a competitive package, together with generous annual leave and CPD support. Further details can be discussed with suitable candidates.
Working at The Ralph
The Ralph was founded with a clear mission: to set the standard for small animal referral veterinary care with an ethical conscience.
Clinical excellence matters here. So does how care is delivered.
We care for every patient as we would our own animal companion. We value our people and prioritise their wellbeing. Kindness and compassion sit at the heart of how we work with patients, carers, and each other.
The Ralph is not part of a corporate veterinary group. This gives us considerable freedom to make decisions based on what we believe is right for our patients, carers, colleagues and hospital.
We are a large multidisciplinary referral centre with an interesting caseload, excellent facilities, broad specialist support and a culture built around empathy and respect.
Living and working in Marlow
The Ralph is based in Marlow, Buckinghamshire, on the River Thames between Henley and Windsor.
Our hospital is just off the A404, with easy access to the M4 and M40 and good connections to London. Heathrow Airport is about 25 minutes away, and Luton, Gatwick, and Stansted are also within easy reach.
Marlow and the surrounding area offer countryside and riverside walks alongside easy access to London. The location also works particularly well for colleagues who travel regularly within Europe.
