Senior Patent Attorney (m/f/d)

Are you a qualified European Patent Attorney with a background in physics, computer science, electrical engineering or a related technical field, and do you enjoy working with complex, cutting-edge technologies?

We are looking for an experienced European Patent Attorney (m/f/d) to join our team as a Senior Patent Attorney. Additional qualification as a German Patent Attorney (Patentanwalt) is highly desirable. Qualification as a European Patent Litigator before the Unified Patent Court (UPC) would also be an advantage.

At Richardt Patentanwälte, you will work on technically demanding patent matters for international corporations, renowned research institutions, hidden champions and innovative technology companies. You will have direct contact with inventors, R&D teams and in-house patent departments and take responsibility for your own cases and clients.

Our work focuses on sophisticated inventions in areas such as quantum computing, quantum communication, post-quantum cryptography, 5G and 6G communications, advanced video compression and codec technologies, and modern control engineering including adaptive and AI-assisted systems.

Strong technical expertise in at least one of these areas is important to us.

What you will do
  • Independently advise and represent clients in patent matters before the European Patent Office.
  • Draft patent applications for technically demanding inventions and conduct examination proceedings before the EPO.
  • If qualified as a German Patent Attorney, represent clients before the German Patent and Trade Mark Office and advise on German patent matters.
  • Handle opposition and appeal proceedings.
  • Contribute to patent infringement and validity proceedings, including proceedings before the Unified Patent Court where appropriate.
  • Develop patent prosecution and portfolio strategies together with our clients.
  • Coordinate international patent matters with our worldwide network of foreign associates.
  • Work directly with inventors, R&D departments and in-house patent teams.
  • Take responsibility for your own cases and develop long-term client relationships.
What we offer
  • Challenging work on cutting-edge technologies and substantial international patent matters.
  • A high degree of professional independence and direct client responsibility.
  • A collaborative working environment with regular professional exchange between experienced patent attorneys.
  • Joint discussion and review of important cases and work products under a four-eyes principle.
  • An attractive remuneration package including a revenue-based participation component.
  • A long-term professional perspective in an internationally oriented patent law firm.
  • Flexible working hours.
  • The option to work remotely.
  • A modern, fully digital working environment and an office in central Wiesbaden.
  • A parking space close to the office, if required.
What you bring
  • Qualification as a European Patent Attorney and admission as a professional representative before the European Patent Office.
  • Ideally, additional qualification and admission as a German Patent Attorney (Patentanwalt).
  • Qualification as a European Patent Litigator before the Unified Patent Court (UPC) would be an advantage.
  • A university degree in physics, computer science, electrical engineering or another relevant scientific or technical discipline.
  • Strong expertise in at least one of the technical areas in which we work: quantum computing; quantum communication; post-quantum cryptography; mobile communications and telecommunications including 5G and 6G; advanced video compression and codec technologies; or modern control engineering including adaptive and AI-assisted systems.
  • Excellent analytical skills and the ability to understand complex technologies quickly.
  • The ability to draft technically and legally precise patent applications and submissions.
  • Very good written and spoken English.
  • German language skills are highly desirable.
  • A structured, reliable and quality-oriented approach to your work.
  • The ability and willingness to take responsibility for clients and cases.
  • The legal right to work in Germany, including any residence or work permit required for your situation.

We are interested in experienced European Patent Attorneys who are looking for a long-term professional perspective and would like to take substantial responsibility for technically demanding patent work and client relationships.
