We are looking for a strategic Senior People Partner to support senior leaders across our Corporate Functions in driving high performance, employee engagement, and organisational effectiveness. You will provide expert guidance on people strategy, employee relations, organisational change, talent management, and leadership development. We pride ourselves on being trusted partners who have a thorough understanding of the business areas we support.
You will support and guide the People Partners to ensure a proactive approach to employee relations, oversee restructuring initiatives, and drive continuous improvement across the People team. A key part of the role will be reviewing and improving policies, processes and ways of working so they are simpler, more consistent, effectively governed and effective for colleagues, managers and the business. You will bring your experience and ideas to help shape how the People team operates, delivers its services and works across organisational boundaries.
We deliver safety, warmth, and comfort to homes and businesses. Every role, whether in the office or on the front line, plays a key part in this mission. Here’s how you will contribute…
- · Strategic People Partnering, acting as a trusted adviser to senior leaders, developing a strong understanding of their business areas and providing insight, constructive challenge and practical guidance on workforce planning, organisational capability, talent management and employee engagement.
- · Develop the use of people data and analytics to identify workforce risks and trends, inform decision-making, prioritise interventions and evaluate the impact of People initiatives.
- · Develop and lead talent management & succession planning initiatives to develop top talent and build robust succession plans for critical roles
- · Empower and enhance internal mobility, employee growth and employer branding, attracting high-calibre talent and promote diversity, equity and inclusion
- · Oversee complex employee relations cases, ensuring compliance with employment law. Supporting development of proactive employee relations strategies to reduce case volume
- · Supporting cultural, organisational and operational change in a safety-critical and regulated environment, leading restructuring, redundancy and change initiatives while building constructive relationships with trade unions and employee representatives.
- · Identify and implement improvements to People policies, processes, systems and ways of working, simplifying workflows, strengthening governance and controls, improving consistency and user experience, and leading People projects such as leadership development programmes, employee engagement initiatives and ED&I activity.
What you will need:
- · Experience in senior generalist HR roles, such as HR Business Partner, Senior HR Advisor, or equivalent role
- · Experience of leading, coaching or providing professional direction to People Partners, building capability and ensuring a consistent, high-quality partnering service.
- · Strong knowledge of employment law, employee relations and People best practice, with the judgement to apply these pragmatically in complex situations.
- · You have experience in talent management, succession planning, and leadership development
- · Credible and able to influence and challenge senior leaders, while remaining hands-on in the delivery of complex employee relations support and day-to-day HR activity
- · HR operations experience improving processes, systems and service delivery, alongside effective partnership with shared services and business support functions
- · Pragmatic and commercially minded, with the ability to navigate diverse stakeholder perspectives, build consensus and drive practical outcomes in a fast-paced environment
- · Direct experience of managing organisational change, including restructuring and workforce planning, ideally in a unionised environment with established consultation and collective engagement arrangements.
- · Experience in contributing to or leading HR process improvement initiatives, with a focus on streamlining workflows and enhancing user experience
- · Commercially aware and highly numerate with great analytical and problem-solving skills
- · Resilient and comfortable working with uncertainty and ambiguity, with the ability to reprioritise and adapt quickly in response to changing business needs, incidents and operational priorities.
Preferred Qualifications:
- · CIPD Level 7 (or equivalent experience)
- · MCIPD (or equivalent)
You will have to travel between business area sites across South England and Scotland and may need to spend occasional nights away from home.
We are looking for a proactive, solutions-oriented individual who is comfortable challenging the status quo and contributing to a culture of continuous improvement. If you are passionate about driving positive change and making a tangible impact on the employee experience, we encourage you to apply.
