Senior PHP/Laravel Engineer

Initiate, revamp, and continuously refine the curriculum development process within a single unified system. You will be joining the product engineering team that owns our Atlas product, used by thousands of institutions to shape the education of millions of students. The Senior PHP/Laravel Engineer role is an exciting opportunity to join both Faria and the Faria Product Engineering team as we embark on a journey to become an AI-native team and company. Key Responsibilities Take ownership of and lead projects end-to-end, by collaborating closely with product managers, frontend engineers and designers to scope, estimate, and deliver high-impact features. Contribute to the teams’ ways of working and SDLC improvements towards the journey of becoming an AI-native team. Improve, support, and secure a scalable PHP application powered by the Laravel framework. Work reliably and complete assigned tasks in a timely manner. Optimize API performance for scale. Adhere to code quality standards: testing, static analysis, performance profiling, and writing unit tests. Set standards and improve build tooling and pipelines (GitHub Actions, bundlers, etc.). Requirements 5+ years of software development expertise PHP 8 + Laravel 12 Strong understanding of OOP principles Experience with using AI during the development process Proficiency with Git/GitHub and modern CI/CD workflows (e.g., GitHub Actions, Jenkins CI/CD) Experience integrating third-party APIs and services Must be security-conscious as you review requirements and write code Experience optimizing application performance relative to the database Experience writing unit and feature tests via PHPUnit Nice to have Experience with MS SQL Server (or similar relational database) Experience with Vue.js Experience with implementing AI-based features Soft skills English: Upper-intermediate (both: writing and oral) Great communication skills, are friendly, and work collaboratively with colleagues An eager-to-learn, flexible mindset with a desire to make a positive impact on the application Proper remote presence & etiquette (acknowledging requests in a timely fashion, not leaving requests unacknowledged at all) Effective adherence to operating procedures (organizing day-to-day work and long-term tasks with priority-driven sequencing) Readiness to coordinate work during business hours with China and the US West Coast team Additional info Team consists of 3 front-end and 2 back-end developers, 1 designer, 1 product owner Tech stack: PHP (Laravel), Vue.js 2 → 3, Figma, Atlassian products (Jira), GitHub team-working timezone (UTC+1, UTC+2, UTC+8, UTC-8) Career development and other business needs occasionally present themselves, even for non-traveling roles.
