Senior Platform Engineer

Swiftly, Inc.

Is this job info correct?

Company Description Swiftly is on a mission to help cities move more efficiently. We are the leading transit data platform for agencies to share real-time passenger information, manage day-to-day operations, and improve service performance. Today, over 200 transit agencies in 12 countries – including LA Metro, MARTA, SEPTA, and MBTA – rely on Swiftly to improve on-time performance by up to 40% and increase passenger information accuracy by up to 50%. The result is better service reliability, increased ridership, and more efficient transit operations. Engineering at Swiftly Engineering at Swiftly isn't only about writing code. We build empowered product teams that shape new features together and bring them to life. Each team balances shipping incremental improvements, prototyping to reduce risk, and building software that scales. Our mission is to make transit better for riders, and we bring humility and intent to our technical decisions so we can meet our customers where they actually are. About the Role You'll help build the software platform underneath Swiftly's products during a period of real investment. Our near-term priorities: modernizing our cloud infrastructure, expanding into a second AWS region, standardizing observability, and making the systems that ingest real-time transit data from agencies more reliable. You'll also own the foundation that lets Swiftly engineers work quickly and safely with AI, including visibility into how those tools are actually getting used. Over the next 6 to 12 months, we expect this to evolve into AI-assisted paths through our development lifecycle, supported by automated quality and security checks that ensure those paths are safe to merge. This is a platform role focused on infrastructure, tooling, safeguards, and developer experience. It's also a cross-functional one. You'll gather requirements from teams across the company, document decisions clearly, and build alignment well beyond your immediate team. Your work will help us hold a 99.9% uptime SLA, improve how we deploy and operate the platform, and keep Swiftly's products reliable and available. This means that transit agencies can provide better service to riders. Apply if you meet half or more of what's below and you're excited to learn the rest. Above all, we look for a positive attitude, sound judgment, and the aptitude to learn. The technology landscape continues to change, and we back individual growth. If this role sounds exciting, we'd love to talk. Please note: At this time, we are only considering applicants who reside in Spain Responsibilities Drive our migration to Amazon EKS by building reusable Kubernetes patterns for deployment, autoscaling, networking, and workload reliability. Expand Swiftly into a new AWS region, designing for multi-region resilience, failover, and data residency. Own and improve shared cloud infrastructure (load balancers, job schedulers, databases, and supporting services) and automate provisioning with Terraform, Ansible, or similar. Make observability self-service by treating monitoring as code: versioned dashboards, alerts, and standardized OpenTelemetry instrumentation teams can reuse. Build and operate the AI platform layer for engineering: managed model access (Amazon Bedrock, for example) drives adoption with reusable tooling, templates, and documentation and measures the impact on developer velocity. Strengthen our CI/CD pipelines and migrate workloads onto a consolidated CI platform. Document platform decisions clearly and build alignment across engineering, product, and go-to-market so the whole company knows what's changing and why. Working closely with product teams: joining their planning sessions, understanding what they're building, and shaping platform work around what they actually need. Share an on-call rotation for production systems, with a focus on cutting down repeat incidents. Requirements Experience building and operating cloud infrastructure on a major cloud platform. AWS preferred. Hands-on experience with Kubernetes or container orchestration. Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools like Terraform or Ansible. Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines, including migrating workloads from one CI platform to another. Experience designing or operating multi-region deployments: failover, data residency, and repeatable provisioning across regions. Hands-on experience building AI tooling that other engineers adopt. Ability to write production-quality code or scripts in Python, Java, JavaScript, Go, or similar. Familiarity with secure cloud networking: VPCs, subnets, routing, load balancers, security groups, and IAM. Experience with observability practices and tools like Grafana and OpenTelemetry. Strong written communication. You can document platform decisions clearly and build alignment across engineering, product, and go-to-market rather than working in isolation. Comfortable troubleshooting production systems and taking on-call. A collaborative, pragmatic approach to technical decisions and a real interest in building platforms that help other engineers move faster and more safely. Nice to Have Security and data depth: security scanning, intrusion detection, policy-as-code, or other DevSecOps tooling. Experience with managed API gateways like Kong. Experience with PostgreSQL, TimescaleDB, or other databases. Experience building or operating data pipelines that move, transform, and integrate data across platforms. Experience evaluating LLM output quality, or measuring what AI tooling does to developer productivity. You'll Be a Good Fit If... You want to work at a mission-driven company. Whatever your "why," it matters that you care about the work we do. You're a team player who pitches in wherever you're most needed. You love solving the problems that let your peers build, test, deploy, and manage cloud services. You want to build systems your teammates can understand, operate, and extend. You're comfortable juggling requirements from multiple stakeholders and don't want to work in a silo. You're up for both team priorities and self-directed projects that improve the wider engineering org. You bring a growth mindset for yourself and your teammates. Technology keeps changing, and you like learning and helping others grow. You take feedback well, approach technical debates with humility, and show up for blameless postmortems when things go wrong. Pay Range In accordance with pay transparency laws, please see the approximate salary ranges below. These ranges represents the anticipated low and high end of the salary and any on-target earnings (if applicable) for this position. Actual salaries will vary and are based on a multitude of non-discriminatory factors including final role leveling decisions, a candidate’s relevant work experiences/skills, and geographic location. Salary Range: €82,000- €115,000 Beyond the Skills: We are looking for candidates who are passionate about mobility, sustainability, or mission-oriented projects that have a significant real-world impact. As a fully distributed company, we consider these offsites important for cultivating strong relationships across our teams! Attending these in-person is expected and encouraged, although we understand everyone has different personal circumstances and we will consider requests for exceptions. Customer-facing team members and other specific roles may be expected to travel more frequently. We are a truly mission-driven culture that is set to change the world of transit We are an equal opportunity employer - we are committed to a workplace that is as dynamic, diverse, and passionate as the communities we serve.
