About the role Gen develops leading macOS security solutions that protect millions of users from viruses, scams, and other online threats across trusted brands such as Avast, AVG, Avira, and Norton. We also build VPN, tune-up, privacy, and optimization products for macOS, as well as antivirus solutions for Linux. As a Senior Principal Software Engineer, you’ll set the technical direction for security-critical features across our macOS portfolio and multiply the impact of engineers around you. You’ll help shape the architecture of advanced consumer security products that keep millions of users protected every day. As an AI-first company, we empower our engineers with a broad range of AI tools to accelerate onboarding, support daily development, and enable rapid prototyping. What you’ll do Collaborate with Product to clarify and refine requirements and translate business goals into a clear, achievable technical roadmap. Tackle complex, ambiguous, and cross-cutting engineering challenges across our products. Define and champion engineering standards, practices, and architectural principles across teams. Mentor and develop engineers at all levels, raising the technical bar across the organization. Make key technology decisions and evolve our platforms, tooling, and development practices. Design, implement, and maintain core security features. Lead the technical evolution of our cleaning and optimization products. Explore and integrate macOS system capabilities to deliver seamless, tailored user experiences. Partner with Designers to turn UI concepts into elegant, functional macOS applications and set a high quality bar for development. Identify high-impact opportunities and lead initiatives that improve our products, platforms, and engineering practices. Challenge the status quo and bring fresh ideas that drive innovation. About you You have extensive experience building polished, production-grade applications on Apple platforms and owning complex features end to end—from architecture and sophisticated UI through release and long-term maintenance. You put users first and care deeply about engineering and product craft. You can turn ambiguous problems or early design concepts into experiences that feel native, fast, and trustworthy. You take ownership of outcomes and are comfortable setting technical direction, making pragmatic trade-offs, and moving work forward with limited oversight. You raise the capabilities of the people and teams around you through mentoring, code review, technical guidance, and standards-setting. You bring a security mindset to everything you build and understand the responsibility that comes with software millions of people rely on to stay safe. You are curious and continuously learn, including exploring where AI-assisted workflows can genuinely improve how you and your team work. Skills and experience Strong full-stack architectural knowledge. Deep proficiency in Swift, with extensive hands-on experience in AppKit and/or UIKit. Strong Bash scripting skills; Python experience is a plus. Expert-level understanding of macOS internals, system architecture, and frameworks. Proven ability to write secure code and design secure APIs, ideally in a security- or privacy-critical domain. Fluency with Apple’s latest technologies, guidelines, and best practices. Hands-on experience integrating AI workflows into real-world software development. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to engineers and non-technical stakeholders and build alignment across teams. English proficiency at C1 level or above.
