About our group | Mō te roopu
The Corporate Services Group works in close partnership with the wider business to lead, support, and enable the EPA to achieve its strategic intentions and effectively and efficiently deliver its core functions.
There are five key functions within the Corporate Services Group. These are: Information Management and Technology, People and Capability, Communications and Customer, Finance and Business Services and Enterprise Projects.
Finance and Business Services
This function provides leadership and support across finance, procurement, planning and performance, risk and assurance, and facilities.
- Finance delivers accurate, timely and meaningful financial information
- Procurement manages internal procurement activity and supports contract management to deliver better public services for better public value.
- Planning and Performance leads organisational performance, business and strategic planning and provides high quality internal and external accountability reporting.
- Risk and Assurance operates processes to manage the EPA’s strategic and business risks and manages the out-sourced internal audit function.
- Data and Reporting enables the business to maximise the use of data to drive organisational insights and improvements
- Facilities provides high-quality office and facilities services and leads the EPA’s sustainability initiatives.
About the role | Mō te tūnga
This role is based in our Wellington office. While we're happy to consider work-from-home arrangements, this role is not designed for full-time remote working.
As our Senior Procurement Advisor, you'll be the EPA's procurement subject matter expert, partnering with teams across the organisation to deliver effective, compliant, and value-focused procurement outcomes. You'll provide strategic and operational advice, help shape procurement practices, and ensure our approach aligns with Government Procurement Rules and broader government objectives.
A day in the life may look like:
- Provide expert procurement and contract management advice to managers and teams across the EPA.
- Lead procurement planning, reporting, supplier management, training and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Support strategic procurement decisions, government procurement initiatives, and organisational capability building through training and guidance.
- Build strong relationships with stakeholders, suppliers, and government agencies to ensure successful procurement outcomes.
- Drive procurement practices that are efficient, transparent, compliant, and deliver value for the EPA and New Zealanders.
About you | Mōhou ake
We are looking for someone with a range of skills and experience – if you have some or all of the below, we would love to hear from you.
- Current or working toward ‘Member of Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply’ (MCIPS) qualification preferred
- Proven experience in a senior procurement advisory role, ideally within the New Zealand public sector.
- Strong knowledge of procurement and contract management principles, practices, and processes.
- Experience negotiating, managing, and monitoring contracts and supplier relationships.
- Sound understanding of Government Procurement Rules, broader government procurement initiatives, and public sector environments.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and reporting skills, with the ability to provide clear, practical advice to a wide range of stakeholders.
- Strong relationship management skills and the ability to influence and collaborate effectively across all levels of an organisation.
- Willingness and capability to lead special projects, for example that help develop the procurement and contract management capability, as well as BAU workflow.
- Experience developing procurement capability, including coaching, training, or supporting others to build procurement knowledge.

Salary range
$90,801 – $136,201 per annum (midpoint $113,501).
This is the full salary range. Appointments will likely be made at or below the midpoint of this range, depending on skills and experience. An appointment at the midpoint assumes 100% competency in the role, with the full band covering a range of 80% - 120%.
