About Brandt

Brandt is the get-outdoors company. State and local agencies steward the parks, lakes, and wildlife people come for; our platforms make getting there easy (from purchasing a hunting or fishing license, to registering a boat, to reserving a campsite) and help agencies manage those resources sustainably. A family with a trip planned doesn’t get a second try at opening day, and neither do we. We're modernizing our platform and building new products, always with an eye toward making that experience better for the agencies and the people who depend on it.

Where You Fit

Brandt’s technology organization builds the platforms agencies rely on to run camping, hunting, fishing, and boating programs at scale (Licensing, Registrations, and Reservations), along with the services layer around them. BizX is a new team in that organization, dedicated to improving how work gets done inside the company. We spend every day building technology that helps agencies and their customers work better, and BizX turns that same attention on Brandt itself.

The team works with every department, from finance and HR to customer support, sales, and our own product and engineering teams, to find where work takes longer than it should, build a better way to do it alongside the people who do it, and then move on to the next opportunity. That work takes many forms: internal tools, redesigned workflows, automation, shared AI agents and skills, easier access to company knowledge, or removing work that no longer needs doing. Teams across Brandt are already building their own tools, and some of them are very good. BizX gives that work one home, so what one department builds is secure, easy to find, and available to the next department that needs it.

You report to the BizX Team Lead and are a leader on the team. It is small and senior by design, because a few people building the right things can change what a hundred people get done in a week. Colleagues will be using what you build within weeks, BizX reports its results directly to the executive team, and the team will grow as it proves its value.

And you care about the mission. The tools you build here help the people who build and support Brandt’s platforms spend more of their time on the agencies and customers who depend on them, which gets more people outdoors and funds the conservation work that keeps those spaces open. That’s not incidental to the work; it’s the point.

The Role

As the team’s senior product manager, you decide where BizX spends its time. You work directly with department leaders and the people doing the work to understand how that work gets done today: where it waits, where it gets retyped from one system into another, and where a skilled person spends hours on something an agent could draft in minutes. From there you map the opportunities across the company, decide with the BizX Team Lead which ones to pursue first, and define what each solution should change and how we will know it worked.

Then you test your ideas. You build early versions yourself, put them in front of the people who will use them, and find out quickly whether the idea holds up. The ideas that hold up go to the engineers in your pod, who build them for production. You write the requirements they build to, work alongside them in the code, and decide when the result is ready.

Early opportunities include agent-written test coverage across our products, requirements drafted from feedback from our support and product teams, and better data behind hiring decisions. BizX Champions, people in each department who know where their team’s work is hardest, will bring you more, and you will find the ones nobody has named yet.

This is a fully remote role, not a hybrid arrangement with an office waiting for you to return to. There’s no relocation clause in the fine print and no plan to change that as the team grows. In this role you will see how every part of Brandt works and help change it.

Responsibilities

What you’ll do in your first six months:

  • Spend time inside each department. Meet its leaders, sit with the people doing the work, and map how work moves through the team, where it stalls, and what that costs
  • Keep a company-wide list of opportunities, each with the problem, the people affected, and an estimate of what solving it is worth. Rank it with the BizX Team Lead, publish it, and give anyone with an idea a simple way to submit it and see where it stands
  • For each opportunity you take on, agree with the department what should change and by how much, and record where things stand today so the result can be measured
  • Prototype quickly. Get a working first version in front of real users within days, watch how they use it, and decide whether to drop it, change it, or build it properly
  • Write the requirements the engineers build from: the workflow, the data and systems involved, what the agent may and may not do, where a person reviews its work, and what happens when it fails
  • Work beside the engineers through the build. Pair on the hard parts, review what they produce, and use agentic coding tools to move work forward yourself
  • Decide when the work is done. Test each agent against real cases, agree with its users on the accuracy it has to reach, and keep checking it after launch
  • Hand each tool to the team that uses it with a named owner, documentation, and a maintenance plan, and stay available while it settles in
  • Measure what each tool changed and report it to the executive team, including the ones that fell short
  • Help people across Brandt use AI well. Share what works, write simple usage guidelines, and support the people in each department who lead adoption on their own teams

Experience & Skills

You may be a good fit if you:

  • Have worked closely with non-technical teams to learn how their work gets done, and found a problem they had stopped noticing
  • Are as comfortable interviewing a department head as watching a frontline employee work, and can turn both into a specific problem statement
  • Have redesigned a workflow instead of automating the one that was already there, and can show what changed
  • Have built something with AI that people other than you rely on, such as an agent, an automation, or an internal tool, and can walk us through it, what it saves, and what broke
  • Check AI output rather than assuming it’s right, with test cases, evaluations, or human review, and can describe catching a plausible but wrong result
  • Are comfortable in code: you can write a script, call an API, query data with SQL, read a pull request, and use agentic coding tools such as Claude Code or Cursor
  • Have measured a change against a baseline and reported the result, including a time the result fell short
  • Have chosen between competing requests from senior leaders and kept their trust
  • Have changed your mind in the last year about where AI belongs in business workflows, and can say what moved you
  • Know how to limit what an agent can see and do, and keep a person in the loop when a mistake would be costly
  • Write clearly enough that people can act on it without a meeting
  • Nice to have: business systems, operations, or internal tools experience, such as revenue operations, finance systems, or IT
  • Nice to have: business analysis, consulting, or process improvement work, including mapping a workflow from start to finish
  • Nice to have: building with LLM APIs, Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers, or workflow tools such as n8n, Power Automate, or Zapier
  • Nice to have: teaching others to use AI tools and seeing the habits last, and working in Microsoft 365 and Azure DevOps
  • No specific industry background is required, and we do not use years of experience or degrees as proxies for ability. We care about evidence of the behaviors above, and how quickly you learn a new domain. If you can show most, but not all, of them, we would still like to hear from you

How You'll Be Measured

You will be measured on the results of what BizX ships, in hours saved, costs avoided, or revenue gained against the starting baseline; the share of tools still in use 90 days after launch; agent accuracy against the agreed standard; and whether department leaders bring their next problem to BizX. We do not use ticket counts, prototype counts, or AI-usage statistics as performance measures.

What's Hard About This Job

BizX is new. The tools we use are fluid and change is the world we live in. More departments will want help than the team can serve, and some will ask BizX to take work off their plate when the better answer is to change how the work gets done. A prototype takes days to build, but changing how a team works takes time, and a tool only counts once people use it. You will often be the person who decides what waits, and you will need to explain why. This job is for someone who wants to help build a new function from the start.

The compensation range is $105,000- $125,000.00, with final level and salary determined based on the candidate’s expertise, qualifications, and prior experience within the applicable pay band.
