Job Description
About Luxer One
Luxer One designs and deploys intelligent locker and access systems across multifamily, commercial, enterprise, and entertainment markets in North America. An Assa Abloy company, our products are connected hardware — physical locker systems with embedded firmware, cloud management, IoT device networks, and mobile interfaces — deployed at thousands of locations and processing millions of transactions annually. Our commercial portfolio includes Luxer One, DropLocker, American Locker, and Luxer Trace, and it is growing.
Hardware is the foundation. The software makes it smart. We need a Senior Product Manager who thinks in that order.
Why This Role Matters
As a Senior Product Manager, you will own the hardware that Luxer One's commercial business runs on — the lockers, control boards, access hardware, IoT gateways, and connected device network behind every deployment. That means owning the product from concept through manufacturing through field deployment through the full lifecycle, with a commercial lens on every decision: what it costs to build, what it costs to deploy, what it generates in the market, and what it takes to win.
The commercial portfolio is at an inflection point. New hardware platforms are entering production. New market segments are opening. The next generation of our connected hardware needs a product leader who can drive NPI programs, work with manufacturing partners, spec the firmware requirements, price the product for the market, and stand in front of an enterprise customer and make the business case — all without changing gears.
If hardware product management is your native discipline and connected devices are your home terrain, this is built for you.
Who You Are
You are a hardware product manager first. You have lived the NPI cycle — from concept and requirements through design validation, manufacturing ramp, and field deployment. You understand BOM and cost targets, design for manufacturability, certification and compliance, and what it means to ship a physical product that has to work in the field for years without someone pressing a reset button.
You also understand what makes hardware smart in 2026: connectivity, cloud management, OTA updates, device telemetry, and the software layer that turns a physical product into a managed fleet. Connected hardware experience is not a bonus for you — it is the part of the job you are most excited about.
You are:
A hardware PM with manufacturing depth — you have owned NPI programs, worked with contract manufacturers, managed BOM and cost targets, and shipped physical products into production; the hardware development lifecycle is your native environment
Connected device fluent — you understand how hardware connects to cloud services, how fleets of deployed devices are managed remotely, what OTA update architecture looks like, and how telemetry and device health monitoring work at scale; IoT is not a stretch for you, it is the domain
Commercial and revenue focused — you hold yourself accountable for what the hardware produces in the market — revenue, margin, win rate, customer value delivered — not just what ships from manufacturing; you have owned pricing decisions, business cases, and launch strategy
Technically credible across the stack — you can sit with firmware engineers on embedded constraints, with cloud architects on device management design, and with manufacturing partners on production tooling, and you are credible in all three rooms; you do not need to be the deepest expert in any one layer, but you need to understand how they connect
AI-forward in product thinking and personal workflow — you apply AI to how you work (discovery synthesis, spec generation, competitive analysis) and you see AI capability as a meaningful product design lever for connected hardware
Entrepreneurial and fast — you make decisions with incomplete information, prototype before specs, and prefer a physical prototype in a customer's hands over a perfect requirements document; you have launched things from scratch, not just managed existing roadmaps
And you bring:
A track record of shipping connected hardware products — physical devices with cloud management, remote update capability, and fleet-scale deployment — into commercial markets
Real NPI experience: from requirements through DVT, manufacturing ramp, and field deployment
Revenue ownership: pricing, packaging, business case development, and accountability for product-driven commercial results
Multi-product range: you have managed more than one hardware platform or product line simultaneously
What You'll Do
Hardware Portfolio Ownership and NPI
Own the hardware product roadmap across the commercial portfolio — control boards, IoT gateways, connected locker hardware, access systems, and next-generation platform programs
Lead NPI programs end to end: requirements definition, hardware design review, DVT and EVT validation, manufacturing ramp, certification and compliance, and field deployment readiness
Work directly with our Las Vegas manufacturing team and contract manufacturing partners on design for manufacturability, cost targets, BOM management, and production quality
Own the hardware product lifecycle — including EOL planning, cost reduction programs, and platform succession decisions
Partner with the embedded systems team on firmware requirements, over-the-air update architecture, and device management capabilities
Connected Device and Fleet Strategy
Own the connected device strategy for the commercial hardware portfolio — how devices connect, how they are provisioned and enrolled, how they are monitored and managed at scale, and how OTA updates are deployed safely across deployed fleets
Define requirements for device telemetry, remote diagnostics, fleet health monitoring, and device management platforms — working with cloud and embedded engineering on implementation
Drive the product roadmap for device management capabilities that reduce field service costs, improve uptime, and enable new commercial service models
Commercial and GTM Ownership
Carry a revenue and margin lens on every hardware product decision — cost targets, pricing strategy, and the business case behind every new product introduction
Own go-to-market for hardware launches: pricing and packaging, sales enablement, positioning, and launch execution in partnership with the VP Sales and Senior Product Marketer
Build and defend business cases for new hardware programs — market sizing, investment rationale, revenue models, and payback period
Partner directly with sales and account management on enterprise opportunities that require hardware product expertise — join customer conversations, help close deals, bring market signal back
Discovery and Technical Leadership
Lead customer and market discovery for new commercial hardware initiatives — building conviction from direct observation in the field, at customer sites, and at industry events
Translate market signal into technically grounded hardware specifications that manufacturing partners can build and engineering teams can implement
Serve as the technical product authority for commercial hardware in cross-functional planning — representing hardware requirements, constraints, and capabilities in roadmap, NPI, and strategic discussions
AI Application to Hardware Products and PM Workflow
Identify where AI capabilities create real product value in the connected hardware portfolio: predictive maintenance, anomaly detection, AI-powered fleet management, and agentic workflows for device operations
Apply AI tools actively in the PM workflow — spec generation, competitive analysis, discovery synthesis, and cross-portfolio coordination — to move faster and produce higher-quality output
Location & Work Model
Sacramento, CA preferred. This role works closely with the VP Commercial Product & Delivery, the embedded systems team, manufacturing partners, and field operations — in-person presence matters. Hybrid considered for the right candidate. Regular travel required for manufacturing partner visits, customer site visits, NPI validation, and industry events.
Requirements
What We're Looking For
Seven or more years of product management experience with the majority spent on physical hardware products — you are a hardware PM, not a software PM who has also touched hardware
Direct connected hardware experience: physical devices with cloud connectivity, remote management, OTA update capability, and fleet-scale deployment in a commercial or enterprise context
NPI ownership: you have led hardware development programs from requirements through manufacturing and field deployment, with experience working directly with contract manufacturers
Revenue and margin accountability: you have owned pricing decisions, business cases, and commercial performance for a hardware product line — not just delivered to a revenue target someone else set
Technical depth across the connected hardware stack: embedded firmware constraints, cloud device management, connectivity protocols, and mobile interfaces — sufficient to make credible technical product decisions in each domain
Multi-product or multi-portfolio experience: you have managed more than one hardware platform simultaneously and can context-switch without losing strategic thread
Demonstrated AI fluency: in your product thinking and your own PM workflow — active usage, not a resume keyword
Strongly Preferred
Experience at a company manufacturing and deploying connected hardware at commercial scale — IoT, access control, smart lock, asset tracking, industrial IoT, or similar
Direct experience with device management platforms, MDM, or fleet monitoring tooling for connected hardware at scale
Background at a startup or growth-stage hardware company where you had broad NPI and commercial ownership — not a specialist PM inside a large hardware organization
Experience with access control, smart locker, asset management, or connected physical security products
Enterprise sales cycle experience: you have partnered on deals with multi-stakeholder buying processes and understand how enterprise customers evaluate and justify hardware investments
Manufacturing cost reduction and VA/VE program experience
