ABOUT US
The Salvation Army is a Christian movement and one of Australia's largest and most-loved charities. We believe in doing good that transforms lives and futures for the better. It is this belief which drives us to find new ways and places where we can make a difference. From times of personal crisis to moments of national grief, we are always here — providing support, safety, community, and opportunity.
Why this role Matters:
The Salvation Army has launched a new Optimizely content management system and digital experience platform — the front door for millions of Australians who come to us for help, to give, or to find out who we are. We're seeking an experienced Senior Product Owner to take end-to-end ownership of the platform and the value it delivers.
Whether you're currently a Product Owner, Digital Product Manager, Delivery Lead or Senior Business Analyst working on an enterprise CMS or DXP, this is an opportunity to bring your expertise to a platform where the work has genuine social impact.
About the Role:
This is a permanent, full time, hybrid role based at our Blackburn, Melbourne office (2 days per week in the office).
As Senior Product Owner, you'll be the single point of accountability for one ranked platform backlog and in collaboration, you'll decide what the team works on next. Working in two-week sprints with internal specialists and external delivery partners, you'll turn organisational need into small, well-formed increments, set a clear sprint goal, and accept completed work against a shared definition of done — with the focus on frequent, low-risk releases and on learning from what's completed.
Key Responsibilities:
- Own and communicate the product vision, roadmap and prioritised backlog, focused on outcomes and customer value
- Lead Agile delivery, including sprint planning, refinement, reviews, retrospectives and acceptance of completed work
- Drive quality and continuous improvement, including UAT, release readiness, post-release evaluation, defect management and technical debt
- Balance delivery capacity and priorities across internal teams and external delivery partners
- Partner with Digital Marketing to deliver experimentation, personalisation and optimisation initiatives
- Ensure governance, security, privacy and accessibility requirements are embedded throughout product development
- Report on delivery, product performance and investment to senior leadership
- Manage vendor relationships and commercial arrangements to maximise value and delivery outcomes
About You:
- Significant experience as a Product Owner, Senior Product Owner or Digital Product Manager for an enterprise CMS or digital experience platform (essential)
- Deep, hands-on agile delivery experience — sprint planning, refinement, reviews and retrospectives
- Demonstrated backlog ownership end to end: refinement, ranking, story writing, acceptance criteria and capacity allocation
- Highly developed stakeholder management and influencing skills across complex environments with competing priorities
- Strong digital marketing grounding, including SEO, conversion optimisation, personalisation and marketing technology
- Experience working within a sprint cadence alongside an external delivery partner or vendor development team (an advantage)
- Optimizely (or equivalent DXP) experience (an advantage)
- Product ownership or agile certification — CSPO, PSPO, SAFe POPM or ICAgile (an advantage)
- Experience managing budgets, vendors and statements of work within a digital delivery environment (an advantage)
Why Work For Us:
- Eligible employees can access NFP Salary Packaging (up to $15,900 tax free) plus meals and entertainment benefit ($2,650)
- Generous paid Parental Leave for primary (12 weeks) and secondary carers + Purchased Leave Scheme (up to 8 weeks) + Workplace Support Leave (5 days) for volunteering in Salvos initiatives
- Flexible and hybrid WFH arrangements, access to Fitness Passport and Consumer Discounts
- Access to EAP and health & wellness initiatives
- Ongoing training and development opportunities that enhance on the job skills and proficiency
- Rewarding and fulfilling purpose driven careers that have positive and sustainable social impacts
How to Apply:
We are looking for compassionate people who share our mission and values, if you have the passion and drive to commit yourself to a challenging and rewarding role; we invite you to apply via the link and submit a current CV and a cover letter which details your alignment with the essential requirements of the role.
