Senior Programmer (Hybrid - Fredericton)

We are seeking a Senior Programmer to support a public sector health system in the development, deployment and maintenance of a legacy case management application. This role focuses on both steady state operations and project-based work, including system maintenance, user support, software upgrades, bug fixes, feature development and code optimization for security and efficiency. The ideal candidate will take ownership of application improvements, contribute to system design and user experience enhancements, and ensure secure coding practices are embedded throughout the development lifecycle.

This position requires someone who can develop, document, code, test and implement technical solutions to support ongoing application maintenance and modernization efforts. The role encompasses maintaining PL/SQL packages and Java applications, conducting unit and functional testing, developing SQL queries and stored procedures, participating in system analysis and design, and supporting performance improvements. The work includes a mixture of steady state maintenance and project-based initiatives, with some after-hours and weekend work possible as approved in advance.

Qualifications

• 8+ years - application programming and analysis experience
• 3+ years - demonstrated experience with CA Gen version 8.5 or higher
• University degree in Computer Science or a related discipline; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
• Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbal and written
• 5+ years - developing, documenting, coding, testing and implementing technical solutions to meet business requirements
• 2+ years - Java or C++ and Struts Framework experience
• 5+ years - service management processes and tools including incident, change request and release management
• 3+ years - SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) experience
• 2+ years - UNIX or Linux environments experience
• 5+ years - database experience with Oracle and SQL Server
• 2+ years - Visual Studio 2019 or above experience
• 3+ months - public sector health care applications and systems support in a Canadian provincial context

Nice to Have

• Additional experience with emerging health care technologies and system integration patterns
• Familiarity with agile development methodologies
• Experience mentoring junior developers
