About the opportunity

We're looking for a Senior Project Accountant who thrives on partnering with leaders to drive financial excellence across complex projects and programs. In this influential role, you'll provide strategic financial management, forecasting, reporting and governance support that enables informed decision-making and strong project performance.

Working closely with Project Managers, Program Directors and senior stakeholders, you'll help ensure projects are delivered within approved budgets while identifying opportunities to improve outcomes through data, digital solutions and AI-enabled tools. Supporting Australia Post's Post30 ambition, you'll play a key role in helping us win with technology and data while delivering better experiences for our customers, teams and communities.

What you’ll deliver with us

Commercial & Strategic Priorities

  • Ensure accurate and timely project financial reporting, forecasts, and variance analysis
  • Support developing, implementing, and maintaining project accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls
  • Partner with project and program managers to provide financial insights
  • Support long-term financial planning, investment cases, and funding submissions.
  • Review and advise on business cases and IEMs for new project submissions (project cost classifications, benefits etc) for new project submissions
  • Assist with scenario modelling and sensitivity analysis for major projects. • Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards (e.g., GAAP/IFRS), , and company policies
  • Manage month-end and year-end close processes related to project financial management & accounting e.g. Accruals, depreciation, AUC, WIPS • Contribute to process improvements and system enhancements to increase efficiency and accuracy

Financial

  • Monitor and influence effective management of project budget against allocation
  • Contribute to Monthly, Quarterly half year and annual Financial Reporting and close process related to projects
  • Assist with the Preparation and review annual and half-year financial statements in accordance with AIFRS and corporate governance principles as required
  • Ensure projects comply with organisational financial policies, accounting standards, and funding requirements.
  • Establish and maintain strong financial controls across project lifecycles.
  • Support internal and external audits, including preparation of documentation and responses.


About you

You're a commercially minded finance professional with a strong background in management accounting, finance business partnering, project accounting, or financial management. You bring a collaborative and customer-focused approach, building trusted relationships across diverse stakeholder groups and providing financial insights that support informed decision-making and successful project outcomes.


You'll have experience working across complex projects, programs or portfolios, with strong knowledge of project accounting principles, financial governance, forecasting, cost controls, benefits tracking and performance reporting. Hands-on experience managing project ledgers is highly regarded, including investigating financial transactions, raising and troubleshooting purchase orders, analysing project costs, and distinguishing operating expenditure from capital expenditure.


We're looking for someone who understands the broader financial implications of project decisions and can apply end-to-end finance thinking to support sustainable business outcomes. You'll be comfortable identifying risks, navigating complex financial scenarios, and partnering with finance, tax and other specialists when required.


You will also bring:

  • Progressive experience in project accounting, cost accounting, management accounting, finance business partnering or project investment environments.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and financial modelling skills, with the ability to interpret large and complex data sets to generate insights and forecast trends.
  • Experience supporting property, construction, fleet, mechanisation, infrastructure or other large-scale capital projects will be highly regarded.
  • Strong knowledge of project accounting concepts, capital and operating expenditure management, revenue recognition, cost controls and financial governance frameworks.
  • The ability to influence stakeholders and drive outcomes across teams, including those outside your direct span of control.


This role would suit an experienced Project Accountant, Finance Manager, Finance Analyst or Finance Business Partner looking to apply their financial expertise within a complex project and transformation environment while contributing to the delivery of critical initiatives across Australia Post.
