About MCBC
Missanabie Cree Business Corporation (MCBC) is the economic development arm of Missanabie Cree First Nation. We build businesses, partnerships, and lasting community wealth — including a growing portfolio of housing and infrastructure developments across Ontario. It is an exciting time to join our finance team as we administer and invest in major construction projects that create real benefit for our members and communities.
The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced, detail-driven Senior Project Accountant to lead the financial side of our construction and development portfolio. From the 140 Merton Street development and transitional housing in Sault Ste. Marie, to limited-partnership interests in projects in Belleville and Thunder Bay, and a prospective long-term care facility, you will play a central role in tracking project costs, administering lender and CMHC draws, and ensuring our projects are accounted for accurately and transparently. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, you will work at the intersection of accounting, construction, and community impact. This is a hybrid arrangement requiring both on-site/in-person attendance and remote work, based on operational requirements.
What You’ll Do
- Maintain job costing, work-in-progress, and budget-to-actual reporting across multiple construction projects.
- Prepare and submit construction draw requests and progress claims to lenders and CMHC.
- Administer construction holdbacks and reconcile project funding.
- Account for MCBC’s limited-partnership and joint-venture interests, including partner reporting.
- Support month-end close, financial reporting, and the year-end audit — all in accordance with ASPE.
What You Bring
- CPA designation (required).
- 5+ years of accounting experience, including direct construction, real estate development, or project accounting.
- Confidence working independently and improving processes, with experience mentoring junior staff an asset.
- Experience with job costing, WIP, construction draws, and holdbacks.
- Knowledge of ASPE; partnership or joint-venture accounting is an asset.
- Proficiency with QuickBooks Online and advanced Excel.
- Familiarity with CMHC financing and government funding is an asset.
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and integrity.
Why Join Us
- Meaningful work with direct benefit to members and community.
- A diverse, high-impact project portfolio you won’t find elsewhere in the region.
- A collaborative finance team and room for professional growth.
- Competitive salary of $100,000 – $120,000 per year, commensurate with experience, plus a comprehensive benefits package.
