Take Ownership of Complex Nuclear Fuel Facility Projects

NANO Nuclear Energy is seeking an experienced Senior Project Engineer to provide owner-side technical leadership across the development, construction, commissioning, and operational readiness of nuclear fuel cycle facilities.

This opportunity offers significant technical responsibility, direct interaction with EPCM partners and contractors, and the ability to influence major capital projects from engineering through operational readiness.

Why This Opportunity Stands Out

  • Owner-side leadership: Represent NANO in technical decisions and contractor oversight.
  • End-to-end involvement: Work across design, procurement, construction, commissioning, and startup.
  • Technical influence: Challenge engineering decisions, resolve complex issues, and manage project risks.
  • Leadership exposure: Partner directly with project management, Fuel Technology, and senior leadership.
  • Industry impact: Help establish uranium conversion, deconversion, and related fuel cycle facilities.
  • Location flexibility: Washington, DC preferred; exceptional remote candidates considered.

What You'll Do

  • Lead technical oversight of multidisciplinary engineering and construction activities.
  • Serve as NANO's senior technical interface with EPCM firms, contractors, vendors, and site personnel.
  • Review engineering designs, calculations, specifications, drawings, equipment selections, and construction packages.
  • Evaluate contractor performance against scope, schedules, codes, quality standards, and licensing commitments.
  • Coordinate process, mechanical, electrical, I&C, civil, structural, and facility engineering interfaces.
  • Conduct field inspections and walkdowns, identify deficiencies, and drive corrective actions.
  • Assess design changes, RFIs, technical deviations, and change orders for impacts on safety, cost, schedule, and compliance.
  • Support contractor selection, technical bid evaluations, statements of work, and contract administration.
  • Coordinate with Fuel Technology, licensing, and quality teams to maintain design authority and configuration control.
  • Support quality assurance, supplier surveillance, inspection plans, and nonconformance resolution.
  • Oversee technical activities through fabrication, installation, testing, system turnover, commissioning, and operational readiness.
  • Provide project leadership with technical progress updates, risk assessments, and recovery recommendations.
  • Establish technical reporting, action tracking, interface controls, and owner acceptance criteria.
  • Mentor junior engineers and coordinate internal and external engineering resources.

What You'll Bring

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Nuclear, Process, or related engineering discipline.
  • 15+ years of progressive engineering experience in nuclear fuel cycle, chemical processing, energy, refining, or comparable complex industrial facilities.
  • Significant capital project experience, including oversight of engineering contractors and field construction.
  • Strong engineering design review, technical problem-solving, and change-management capabilities.
  • Knowledge of industrial construction, commissioning, quality assurance, and applicable safety and environmental requirements.
  • Experience evaluating contractor changes and resolving field issues involving cost, schedule, safety, and regulatory considerations.
  • Strong technical judgment, communication, and cross-functional leadership skills.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 40%.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with NRC-regulated nuclear fuel facilities, uranium conversion/deconversion, or comparable regulated processing operations.
  • Construction inspection, commissioning, startup, system turnover, or operational readiness experience.
  • Familiarity with nuclear QA, licensing commitments, and configuration management.
  • Experience coordinating multiple EPCM and construction contractors across simultaneous projects.

Location & Travel

Washington, DC is preferred, although exceptional remote candidates will be considered. Domestic and international travel of up to 40% is required based on project needs.

What We Offer
