Senior Project Hydrogeologist ITASCA North America | U.S.-based About the role ITASCA North America is seeking a Senior Project Hydrogeologist to support mining, groundwater, and environmental projects across the U.S. and North America. This role is suited for a hydrogeologist with proven technical capability and approximately 8–12 years of relevant experience. The successful candidate will work independently on technical assignments, manage small- to medium-sized projects, support field investigations and modeling studies, and contribute to clear, practical technical reporting. Mining experience is strongly valued, particularly in mine water management, dewatering, depressurization, seepage, closure, permitting support, and hydrogeologic support for mine planning and operations. Why this role matters Water is often a defining factor in how mining, infrastructure, energy, and environmental projects are planned, permitted, operated, and closed. As a Senior Project Hydrogeologist, you will help clients understand groundwater systems, interpret field and monitoring data, and develop practical recommendations. Your work may support groundwater characterization, mine water management, dewatering studies, contaminant transport assessment, environmental permitting, closure planning, and risk management. This role is an important step in technical growth at ITASCA North America: you will take meaningful ownership of project work while continuing to develop your judgment, communication skills, project management capability, and client-facing confidence. What you’ll do Support and manage hydrogeology, mine water, groundwater, and environmental projects. Plan, coordinate, and interpret field investigations, including drilling, monitoring well installation, groundwater and surface water sampling, aquifer testing, and hydraulic testing. Develop and interpret conceptual hydrogeologic models. Support groundwater flow and contaminant transport modeling, including data preparation, model development, and documentation. Analyze hydrogeologic, geochemical, and environmental data. Prepare technical reports, presentations, work plans, proposals, scopes, budgets, and schedules. Manage small- to medium-sized projects or project tasks, including scope, schedule, budget, deliverables, and technical quality. Communicate technical findings to project teams, clients, regulators, and other stakeholders. Coordinate with hydrogeologists, geomechanics engineers, engineering geologists, geochemists, data scientists, and numerical modelers. Support proposal development, client communication, and continued growth of ITASCA North America’s hydrogeology practice. What you bring Required Advanced degree in hydrogeology, environmental engineering, geochemistry, or a related field. 8–12 years of relevant professional experience. Proven technical capability in hydrogeology or a closely related field. Professional registration by a recognized organization, or ability to obtain registration where required. Experience with hydrogeologic field investigations, groundwater monitoring, aquifer or hydraulic testing, and data interpretation. Experience developing or interpreting conceptual hydrogeologic models. Familiarity with groundwater flow and/or contaminant transport modeling. Effective technical writing, verbal communication, and presentation skills. Ability to work independently and manage small- to medium-sized assignments or projects. Ability to support proposals, work programs, budgets, and client communication. Strongly valued Mining industry experience, particularly mine water management, pit dewatering, depressurization, seepage, closure, water balance, permitting, and operational hydrogeology. Experience with contaminant hydrogeology, aqueous geochemistry, groundwater/surface water interaction, water supply, or remediation. Experience with MODFLOW, FEFLOW, MINEDW, PEST, MT3D, or other transport modeling tools, GIS, 3-D visualization, or data analysis. Experience supporting environmental impact assessment, permitting, regulatory engagement, or closure planning. Experience coordinating subcontractors, field crews, drilling programs, or monitoring programs. Experience working with multidisciplinary technical teams. Why ITASCA For more than 45 years, ITASCA has helped clients solve complex geomechanics, hydrogeology, and engineering geology challenges through technical depth, practical judgment, and innovation. At ITASCA, you will work on challenging projects where standard approaches are often not enough. Our work combines field experience, scientific and engineering interpretation, advanced analysis, and state-of-the-art ITASCA software to help clients make better decisions. We are a collaborative, collegial, employee-owned company where technical excellence, curiosity, mentorship, mutual respect, and shared success matter. This is a place for hydrogeologists who want to grow technically, take ownership of meaningful project work, and contribute to a growing North American consulting practice. Location and travel This is a full-time position based in the United States. Preferred locations are Denver/Lakewood, Colorado, or Minneapolis, Minnesota, but other U.S. locations, including hybrid/remote work options, may be considered for the right candidate. Travel may be required for client meetings, site visits, field programs, conferences, and internal collaboration. ITASCA may provide employment-based visa sponsorship (e.g. H1-B, L-1, TN, etc.) for this role, subject to business needs, candidate qualifications, and immigration regulations. Compensation and benefits We value your contributions and offer a comprehensive benefits package, including: Competitive salary commensurate with experience Performance bonuses, including cash and company stock Health, dental, and vision benefits for you and your family Generous paid time off from day one Paid holidays 401(k) with company match Paid parental leave Company-paid short-term disability, long-term disability, and life insurance The anticipated salary range is $85,000-$105,000. Final compensation will depend on experience and qualifications. Take the next step in your career and become a valued member of our employee-owned company. Join us at ITASCA, where innovation meets excellence! ITASCA is an equal opportunity employer, a drug-free workplace, and complies with ADA regulations as applicable.
