Senior Project Manager
About

Established in 2014, Data Kraken is a dynamic analytical consultancy firm based in Oxford, United Kingdom.

We provide expert advice and solutions to businesses and organisations, by leveraging data analysis, AI, and other analytical techniques (BI, Risk Management, etc.). Our custom solutions ensure that our clients' data is secure, well-managed, and usable.

Our aim is to help our clients make informed decisions, optimise processes, identify opportunities, mitigate risks, and solve complex problems, using critical thinking & data-driven approaches.

By assisting our clients in harnessing the power of data, we assist them in optimising performance and achieving their business objectives.

If you'd like to learn more about Data Kraken and the services that we provide, please visit our website.

Location & Working Pattern

This is a full-time role based at our office in Oxford (OX4) from Monday to Thursday, with Fridays as work-from-home days. Only candidates who can commit to this on-site schedule will be considered.

A comfortable commuting distance will be considered, but our preference is that you are based in Oxford or the close surrounding area. Please note there is no parking on-site, so team members use public transport, cycle, or walk to the office.

Our Tech Stack

We primarily do our work in the cloud, using AWS and GCP. We typically receive large volumes of data from our clients, which we process into a suitable format for further analysis. While some client data remains in client-hosted environments, most projects are executed within our cloud setups.

Across the business, we also use Google Workspace for our day-to-day work, alongside Atlassian tools like Jira and Confluence.

About the Role

Job Title: Project Manager

Salary: Up to £50,000 depending on experience

We are seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead end-to-end technical project delivery, streamline process workflows, and manage client relationships. In this role, you will operate with high autonomy. You will own technical project roadmaps, mitigate risks and act as a primary liaison between clients and the technical engineering teams.

You will bring strong technical acumen to understand data engineering and software delivery nuances, paired with deep expertise in modern project management frameworks and toolsets.

Key Responsibilities:

  • End-to-end Project Delivery: Take full ownership of complex, multi-stream data and software projects simultaneously. Facilitate sprint planning, daily stand-ups, backlog grooming, and ensure timely delivery within scope and budget.
  • Process & Jira Optimisation: Serve as the internal authority on project workflows. Set up, configure, and maintain advanced Jira project spaces, dashboards, and Confluence documentation to track delivery velocity and provide clear stakeholder reporting.
  • Working Across Teams: Drive collaboration between data analysts, engineers, and executive stakeholders. Ensure team alignment with project goals and remove delivery blockers swiftly.
  • Quality & Risk Control: Establish frameworks for project quality assurance, risk mitigation, and clear scope definition (including drafting detailed Project Charters and SOWs).

About You

Required Experience & Skills:

  • 3–5+ years of proven project management experience within a technical, software development, or data consultancy environment.
  • Deep expertise in Jira & Confluence: Advanced mastery of Atlassian tools, including board setup, workflow configuration, metric reporting, and process automation.
  • Technical Background: Hands-on background or strong working familiarity with roles across software/data delivery (e.g., prior experience as a Product Owner, Business Analyst, or Scrum Master).
  • Communication & Documentation: Exceptional written and spoken English. Proven ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear deliverables for clients and write robust project documentation (Project Charters, SOWs, status reports).
  • Agile & Delivery Mastery: Proven success designing, implementing, and refining end-to-end delivery processes across the full project lifecycle.
  • Flexibility: Comfortable with initial remote working, regular bi-weekly travel to Oxford (which remains permanent), and ready to transition to a Newcastle office footprint when launched.

Nice to haves:

  • Team leadership experience.
  • Formally recognised credentials (e.g., PMP, PRINCE2, AgilePM, CSM, or PSM).
  • Experience working within the Telecommunications (Telco) industry.
  • Familiarity with Google Workspace tools.

Right to Work

Applicants must have valid, unrestricted Right to Work in the UK prior to applying.

Company Benefits
  • 21 days of annual leave + 8 UK bank holidays
  • Your birthday off
  • Enhanced Sick Pay: Sick pay benefits that exceed statutory requirements.
  • Pension Scheme (we use Nest)
  • WFH Fridays!
  • Opportunities for career growth and development
  • Regular team lunches, dinners, socials

Why apply?

At Data Kraken, we believe in fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace. We encourage applicants of all backgrounds to apply.

We want all candidates to shine in this process!

please let us know if there's anything we can do to make sure the application and assessment process works for you.
