The Role:
Joining our well-established and dynamic Healthy Places, Nutrition and Physical Activity Team as a Senior Public Health Practitioner, you'll be joining at an exciting time as our new Public Health Strategy highlights the importance of place making and the wider determinants of health. There has never been a better opportunity to integrate public health into spatial planning, transport, healthy housing and tackling food insecurity, helping to create healthier communities and improve outcomes for both residents across Hampshire and the environment.
Working alongside colleagues across the council, district and borough councils, health partners and local communities, you'll shape and deliver innovative programmes that address the wider determinants of health and reduce inequalities. You'll play a key role in ensuring health considerations are embedded within local policies, strategies and services, helping to create environments where people can live healthier, more connected lives.
As part of a supportive multidisciplinary public health team, you'll have the opportunity to influence projects and programmes of work, drive partnership working and contribute to the delivery of our Public Health Strategy, while continuing to develop your career within a forward-thinking public health service.
What you’ll do:
- Lead and support the development and delivery of programmes and projects that address the wider determinants of health, with a particular focus on healthy places, housing, food insecurity and community connectedness.
- Embed a health in all policies approach across council services, ensuring public health principles influence policy, strategy and decision-making.
- Work collaboratively with district and borough councils, NHS partners, Integrated Care Boards, voluntary organisations and other stakeholders to develop and deliver place-based approaches to improving population health.
- Use evidence, research and insight to identify priorities, understand local needs, reduce inequalities and inform effective interventions.
- Shape and contribute to public health responses to spatial planning and place-making, helping to create healthier, more sustainable environments.
- Develop evidence-based outcome measures and evaluate programmes to demonstrate the impact of public health services/programmes/projects, drive continuous improvement and support evidence-based decision-making.
- Provide specialist public health advice, prepare reports and presentations for a range of audiences, and represent Public Health at key partnerships, networks and forums.
What we’re looking for:
We're looking for an experienced public health professional with a passion for improving health outcomes through collaboration, innovation and evidence-based practice.
You'll bring:
- A Master's degree in Public Health, or equivalent.
- Significant experience working in public health or a role with substantial public health responsibilities.
- Strong knowledge of health inequalities, the wider determinants of health, the principles and models underpinning health improvement, and current public health policy.
- Experience of developing, implementing and evaluating public health programmes, strategies or policies.
- Excellent analytical skills, with the ability to interpret complex evidence and data and present findings clearly to a range of audiences.
- Understanding of evidence-based policy and practice, epidemiology and research methods and their application to public health policy and practice.
- Outstanding communication, influencing and partnership-working skills, with experience of building productive relationships across organisations and sectors.
- Strong project management, organisational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and deliver high-quality outcomes.
