Position Description
This is a hybrid position requiring attendance at our downtown Toronto office and/or client office a minimum of 2 days per week, subject to change at any time.
CGI is seeking an experienced Senior QA Automation Engineer to join our growing Quality Engineering team. This is a hands-on role for a quality engineering professional with strong expertise in UI automation, API and web services testing, SQL, service virtualization, and banking applications.
The successful candidate will work within geographically distributed Agile teams and collaborate closely with developers, technical leads, Product Owners, QA professionals, and client stakeholders. This role requires someone who can quickly understand complex applications, contribute to existing automation frameworks, develop new automated and manual tests, and help drive high-quality delivery.

CGI is seeking an experienced Senior QA Automation Engineer to join our growing Quality Engineering team. This is a hands-on role for a quality engineering professional with strong expertise in UI automation, API and web services testing, SQL, service virtualization, and banking applications.
The successful candidate will work within geographically distributed Agile teams and collaborate closely with developers, technical leads, Product Owners, QA professionals, and client stakeholders. This role requires someone who can quickly understand complex applications, contribute to existing automation frameworks, develop new automated and manual tests, and help drive high-quality delivery.
Your future duties and responsibilities
- Design, develop, maintain, and execute automated and manual test scenarios across web, API, integration, and backend applications.
- Develop and enhance UI automation solutions using Selenium with Java, C#, Python, or comparable technologies.
- Contribute to and enhance existing automation frameworks, including BDD frameworks such as Cucumber or SpecFlow.
- Design and execute automated tests for REST and SOAP web services/APIs.
- Perform functional, regression, system integration, end-to-end, and acceptance testing.
- Develop comprehensive test plans, test cases, test scenarios, and traceability matrices based on business and technical requirements.
- Create, execute, and maintain service virtualization scripts and mock services using tools such as CA LISA/Broadcom Service Virtualization and Parasoft SOAtest.
- Perform backend and data validation by developing and executing SQL queries.
- Validate batch processing and support the execution and testing of batch and Hadoop jobs where required.
- Identify and prepare appropriate test data and support ongoing test data management.
- Perform smoke testing of test environments and contribute to test environment planning and management.
- Identify, document, triage, track, and manage defects through resolution.
- Participate in defect triage meetings with client stakeholders, development teams, and technology partners.
- Collaborate with multiple Agile/Scrum teams and manage competing testing priorities effectively.
- Integrate automated testing and service virtualization capabilities with test management and CI/CD processes.
- Support CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, Azure DevOps, or similar technologies.
- Participate in code development, review, testing, and enhancement activities related to quality engineering.
- Ensure established quality engineering processes, standards, methodologies, and best practices are consistently followed.
- Provide clear updates on testing progress, risks, issues, and dependencies to Test Managers and client stakeholders.
- Prepare professional client-facing and internal status reports as required.
- Participate in lessons-learned sessions, Agile ceremonies, knowledge-sharing activities, and team training.
- Coach and mentor junior team members in testing, automation, API/web services testing, and quality engineering practices.
- Work with QA leadership to define appropriate quality metrics and provide regular reporting on automation and virtualized assets.
- 7+ years of professional software testing/Quality Engineering experience.
- 5+ years of experience within Banking/Financial Services, with strong experience testing retail credit card applications and processes.
- Strong hands-on UI automation experience using Selenium with Java, C#, Python, or a comparable programming language.
- Experience developing and maintaining automation frameworks, preferably using Cucumber, SpecFlow, BDD, or similar approaches.
- 3+ years of hands-on experience testing SOAP/WSDL and REST-based web services/APIs.
- Strong experience with one or more testing tools such as Selenium, UFT/QTP, CA LISA/Broadcom Service Virtualization, Parasoft SOAtest, or SoapUI.
- Strong understanding of JSON and XML formats.
- Hands-on experience with SQL, including creating and executing queries for backend and data validation.
- Experience testing or executing batch jobs.
- Experience with service virtualization, API mocking, or virtual services.
- Strong experience with test and defect management tools such as JIRA, HP ALM/Quality Center, Redmine, or comparable platforms.
- Hands-on experience working within Agile/Scrum delivery teams.
- Ability to independently develop test plans, test cases, test scenarios, test data, and traceability matrices.
- Ability to work effectively across multiple Scrum teams and manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Strong understanding of software testing methodologies, quality management principles, application delivery processes, and industry best practices.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, problem-solving, and attention-to-detail skills.
- Ability to quickly understand new applications, technologies, and business processes.
