At Pentland Brands, every role helps move our brands forward. Whether you’re supporting our people, improving our systems, growing our commercial performance, strengthening operations or shaping better ways of working, your impact reaches across a portfolio of iconic brands used by consumers around the world.

This role will work as part of the Shopify / DTC delivery squad and will be responsible for validating technical and functional changes delivered across Shopify storefronts, integrations, apps, workflows, and wider digital commerce solutions. The Senior QA Engineer will ensure that user stories are tested against defined acceptance criteria, defects are clearly captured and managed, releases are validated, and quality standards are consistently applied across the delivery lifecycle.

The role will also help shape broader test strategies for digital commerce, including regression testing, integration testing, performance testing, load testing, security testing coordination, penetration testing support, and BAU platform quality assurance. Although the primary focus will be Shopify and digital commerce, the role may also support testing across other platforms within the wider digital landscape where required.

What you’ll be doing:

QA Delivery for Shopify & Digital Commerce

  • Own QA activities for Shopify and digital commerce user stories within the delivery squad.

  • Review user stories, acceptance criteria, designs, and technical requirements to define appropriate test coverage.

  • Create and execute functional, regression, integration, end-to-end, and exploratory test cases.

  • Validate Shopify storefront changes, Liquid/theme updates, app configurations, Shopify Flow changes, API integrations, and platform enhancements.

  • Ensure delivered functionality meets business requirements, technical expectations, and user experience standards.

  • Support testing across customer journeys including product discovery, product detail pages, cart, checkout, order confirmation, account journeys, content pages, promotions, and fulfilment-related flows.

  • Ensure defects are captured clearly, prioritised appropriately, and retested once resolved.

User Story Validation & Agile Delivery

  • Work closely with Product Owners, Business Analysts, Shopify Engineers, the Shopify Technical Lead, and the Digital Commerce Delivery Manager to understand requirements and testing priorities.

  • Participate in backlog refinement, sprint planning, daily stand-ups, sprint reviews, and retrospectives.

  • Challenge incomplete or unclear acceptance criteria before development begins.

  • Support definition of ready and done from a QA perspective.

  • Estimate testing effort for user stories and sprint planning.

  • Provide timely feedback to developers and business stakeholders during sprint delivery.

  • Ensure QA status, defects, risks, and test evidence are maintained in JIRA or equivalent tools.

Test Strategy & Quality Governance

  • Help define and maintain the QA approach for Shopify and digital commerce delivery.

  • Build structured test plans for new features, enhancements, releases, and platform changes.

  • Develop reusable regression test packs for critical Shopify journeys.

  • Define test coverage across functional, integration, performance, accessibility, cross-browser, cross-device, and operational scenarios.

  • Identify quality risks early and recommend mitigation plans.

  • Support release readiness assessments and go / no-go decisions.

  • Promote consistent QA standards, test documentation, defect management, and quality reporting across the squad.

Integration & End-to-End Testing

  • Test integrations between Shopify and wider enterprise systems, including ERP platforms such as SAP, middleware or integration platforms such as Patchworks, PIM, DAM, CRM, Martech, payment, fulfilment, warehouse, logistics, order management systems, and third-party Shopify apps.

  • Validate ecommerce data flows including products, pricing, inventory, promotions, orders, customers, fulfilment, refunds, and returns.

  • Support API testing using tools such as Postman, Swagger, or similar.

  • Work with developers and integration partners to investigate data issues, failed transactions, API errors, and integration defects.

  • Ensure end-to-end scenarios are tested across Shopify and connected systems before release.

Performance, Load & Security Testing Support

  • Help define performance and load testing strategies for digital commerce solutions.

  • Identify key customer journeys and transaction flows that require load, stress, or performance validation.

  • Support planning and coordination of load testing activities for high-traffic events, campaign launches, peak trading periods, and major releases.

  • Work with technical teams and external partners to interpret performance results and identify risks.

  • Support penetration testing planning, coordination, evidence gathering, defect tracking, and remediation validation.

  • Ensure security-related findings are tracked, prioritised, retested, and closed appropriately.

  • Contribute to quality checks around data protection, secure customer journeys, access control, payment-related flows, and platform risk areas.

Automation & Tooling

  • Support the development and maintenance of automated test coverage where appropriate.

  • Identify candidates for automation across regression, smoke, and high-value repeatable test scenarios.

  • Work with engineering teams to embed automated testing into delivery and release processes.

  • Use QA tools and frameworks suitable for web, ecommerce, API, and integration testing.

  • Maintain test cases, test evidence, defect logs, dashboards, and QA reporting in agreed tools.

  • Support continuous improvement of QA tooling, test environments, and test data management.

BAU Support & Platform Quality

  • Support BAU quality assurance for existing Shopify websites and wider digital commerce platforms.

  • Validate fixes for production incidents, defects, configuration issues, app issues, and minor enhancement requests.

  • Support smoke testing and regression testing following releases, hotfixes, app updates, integration changes, or platform configuration changes.

  • Monitor recurring defect patterns and help identify root causes.

  • Support operational readiness by ensuring release notes, test evidence, and known issues are documented.

  • Help ensure live Shopify websites remain stable, functional, and fit for business use.

Documentation & Reporting

  • Create and maintain test plans, test scripts, regression packs, test execution records, and defect reports.

  • Ensure QA activity is visible and traceable through JIRA, Confluence, or equivalent tools.

  • Provide clear reporting on test progress, defect status, quality risks, and release readiness.

  • Document test assumptions, dependencies, blockers, and outstanding risks.

  • Maintain knowledge of tested features, business rules, integrations, and critical customer journeys.

  • Contribute to QA process documentation and continuous improvement materials.

What you’ll bring:

  • 6-9 years of experience in QA engineering, software testing, ecommerce testing, or digital platform quality assurance.

  • Experience testing ecommerce platforms, ideally including Shopify or similar commerce platforms.

  • Strong understanding of functional testing, regression testing, integration testing, end-to-end testing, and exploratory testing.

  • Experience testing customer-facing digital journeys across web, mobile, and responsive storefronts.

  • Experience validating user stories against acceptance criteria in agile delivery teams.

  • Experience working with JIRA, Confluence, test management tools, and defect tracking processes.

  • Good understanding of ecommerce data flows such as product, pricing, inventory, customer, order, payment, fulfilment, refund, and return flows.

  • Experience supporting API testing using Postman or similar tools.

  • Ability to identify, document, prioritise, and retest defects clearly.

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to think from both business and customer perspectives.

  • Experience working with developers, product owners, business analysts, architects, and delivery managers.

  • Strong communication skills and ability to explain quality risks clearly.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience testing Shopify, Shopify Plus, Shopify apps, Shopify Flow, Liquid/theme changes, or headless Shopify implementations.

  • Experience with integration platforms such as Patchworks.

  • Exposure to ERP platforms such as SAP.

  • Exposure to PIM, DAM, CRM, Martech, payment, fulfilment, warehouse, or logistics integrations.

  • Experience supporting load testing, performance testing, or stress testing.

  • Experience coordinating penetration testing or security remediation validation.

  • Experience with automated testing tools such as Cypress, Playwright, Selenium, TestCafe, or similar.

  • Experience with API test automation or contract testing.

  • Understanding of accessibility testing, SEO checks, Core Web Vitals, and cross-browser compatibility.
