About Groq
Inference is the engine that powers AI, and Groq was built from the silicon up to deliver the world's fastest inference at scale. We pioneered the LPU—the first processor designed specifically for AI inference—and are transforming that innovation into a global cloud platform powering production AI workloads.

With the capital, infrastructure, and team to execute, we're uniquely positioned to define the next era of AI infrastructure. The opportunity is massive, and it's still wide open. Now let's go build it!

Mission:
We are seeking a detail-oriented Senior Revenue Accountant to manage revenue recognition processes, ensure compliance with ASC 606 and ASC 842, and partner cross-functionally with Sales, Legal, and Finance teams. This role is critical to maintaining accurate financial reporting and supporting scalable revenue operations as the company grows, with particular focus on our cloud hosting revenue streams and data center leasing arrangements. This individual will also support broader monthly close activities, technical accounting research, and audit/internal controls compliance.

Location: We prioritize hiring in or near the SF Bay Area, New York City and Dallas.

Responsibilities & opportunities in this role:
  • Review customer contracts for cloud hosting services to ensure compliance with ASC 606, including identification of performance obligations, standalone selling price analysis, and appropriate timing/pattern of revenue recognition.
  • Review lease agreements related to data center space and data center computer rack leasing to ensure proper accounting treatment under ASC 842, including lease classification (operating vs. finance/sales-type), embedded lease identification, and right-of-use asset/liability assessment.
  • Analyze contract terms, performance obligations, and pricing structures to determine appropriate revenue treatment across both hosting and leasing arrangements.
  • Partner with Sales and Legal teams during contract drafting and negotiation to structure terms that support clean, straightforward revenue recognition.
  • Identify and flag non-standard terms (e.g., bundled hosting/hardware arrangements, variable consideration, embedded leases) that may create recognition complexity or risk.
  • Manage and maintain deferred revenue waterfalls/schedules.
  • Create, issue, and reconcile monthly customer billings; investigate and resolve discrepancies between billing, revenue, and cash receipts.
  • Perform balance sheet account reconciliations and analyze fluctuations (flux analysis) month-over-month and year-over-year.
  • Utilize Salesforce and NetSuite to manage contract data, billing workflows, and revenue schedules.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and reduce manual, spreadsheet-based work in revenue operations and close activities.
  • Review collectability of outstanding invoices in accordance with ASC 326 (CECL).
  • Make recommendations regarding customer churn related to non-payment, delinquency, or other disqualifying account activity.
  • Serve as a key liaison between Accounting, Sales, and Legal on revenue-impacting matters.
  • Partner with FP&A on budget-to-actual variance analysis related to revenue.
  • Support ad hoc analysis and special projects as requested by management.

Ideal candidates have/are:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 3-5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with direct experience in revenue accounting.
  • Strong working knowledge of ASC 606 (preferably applied to hosting/subscription/SaaS revenue) and ASC 842 (preferably applied to data center or equipment leasing); familiarity with ASC 326 (CECL) preferred.
  • Solid understanding of US GAAP beyond revenue-specific standards.
  • Hands-on experience with NetSuite and Salesforce required.
  • CPA or CPA candidate preferred.
  • Experience in a SaaS, cloud infrastructure, colocation, or data center company environment a plus.
  • Experience with SOX compliance a plus (public or pre-IPO company environment).
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and written communication skills (including drafting technical accounting memos).
  • Ability to work cross-functionally and explain accounting concepts to non-accounting stakeholders.
  • High attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven, fast-paced environment.
  • Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, waterfall modeling); experience with BI/reporting tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI) a plus.
  • Experience building or improving deferred revenue and billing processes for hosting/subscription revenue.
  • Experience with lease accounting software or lease schedule management for data center/colocation arrangements.
  • Prior involvement in audit preparation, PBC schedules, and internal controls (SOX experience a plus).
  • Experience mentoring or reviewing the work of junior accounting staff.
