Senior Robotics Engineer

Job Description
About the Role:

Brooks Automation Korea is hiring a Senior Robot Design Engineer to play a key technical leadership role in the development of high‑reliability vacuum robots for semiconductor manufacturing equipment. This position is intended for an experienced engineer with strong first‑principles design capability, deep mechanical intuition, and proven experience delivering complex robotic systems into high‑volume production.

This role is based in South Korea and works closely with global engineering teams, local manufacturing, and major semiconductor equipment customers across Asia.

Key Responsibilities:

Advanced Robot & Mechanical Design

  • Lead the mechanical design and development of vacuum robotic systems used in critical semiconductor manufacturing processes.
  • Own robot architecture from concept through detailed design, using first‑principles engineering to ensure performance, reliability, and manufacturability.
  • Conduct and review:
  • Structural deflection and stress analysis
  • Fatigue and component lifetime prediction
  • Vibration and modal analysis
  • Dynamic modeling for motor and drive selection

Motion & System Performance

  • Work closely with controls, software, and applications teams on:
  • Motion control strategy
  • Robot tuning and performance optimization
  • System‑level tradeoffs between throughput, accuracy, vibration, and lifetime
  • Provide mechanical leadership to ensure robust integration of hardware, motion, and control systems.

Technical Problem Solving & Reliability

  • Lead failure analysis for development, production, or field issues.
  • Apply structured problem‑solving methods such as 5‑Why, Fishbone, and 8D to identify root cause and drive corrective action.
  • Champion reliability, robustness, and continuous improvement across designs.

New Product Introduction & Manufacturing Support

  • Support hands‑on build, bring‑up, and qualification of new robotic products.
  • Lead technical transition from R&D into manufacturing and volume production.
  • Drive Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Cost (DFC) while maintaining high reliability standards.

Cross‑Functional & Customer Collaboration

  • Work closely with Product Management, Applications Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, and Supply Chain.
  • Support customer interactions including requirement definition, design reviews, and technical issue resolution.
  • Travel as needed within Asia (Korea, Japan, China, Taiwan) to support customers and global programs.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
  • 10+ years of experience in robot or precision mechatronic system design for high‑reliability or mission‑critical applications.
  • Strong preference for experience with vacuum robots or semiconductor manufacturing equipment.
  • Demonstrated expertise in first‑principles engineering, including:
  • Mechanics, dynamics, and vibration
  • Fatigue and lifetime analysis
  • System modeling for motor and drivetrain selection
  • Proven experience delivering new products from concept to manufacturing release.
  • Proficiency with 3D CAD tools (Creo preferred, not required).
  • Experience using finite element analysis (FEA) tools.
  • Ability to read and write technical documentation in English.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with motion control systems, servo tuning, and robot performance optimization.
  • Direct experience working with semiconductor OEM customers.
  • Background in vacuum, contamination‑sensitive, or clean‑room designs.
  • Mandarin Chinese language capability is a plus.
  • Experience working in Asia‑based engineering or manufacturing environments.

Personal Attributes We Value:

  • Strong analytical and first‑principles mindset
  • Comfortable owning complex technical decisions and tradeoffs
  • Hands‑on, practical engineering approach
  • Clear communicator across disciplines and cultures
  • High standards for quality, reliability, and accountability
