DNM is seeking an experienced Senior Safety Manager to provide leadership and technical oversight of health and safety across our operating companies. Reporting to the VP, People & Culture, this role is responsible for establishing consistent safety standards, maintaining regulatory compliance, strengthening safety programs, and supporting effective safety practices across DNM's operations. The Senior Safety Manager will work closely with General Managers, site supervisors, the Safety Lead, People & Culture, and operational teams to ensure safety requirements are effectively implemented and maintained. A key priority of this position is leading DNM's Certificate of Recognition (COR) certification, including program development, documentation, audit readiness, corrective actions, and certification requirements. With operations across mechanical, HVAC, plumbing, construction, manufacturing, underground utility, and related skilled trades environments, this role requires strong technical safety knowledge and the ability to apply regulatory requirements across varied operational settings. Key Responsibilities Safety Leadership & COR Certification Lead DNM's COR certification program, including documentation, audit planning, readiness reviews, and corrective actions. Establish and maintain consistent health and safety standards across operating companies. Provide technical safety guidance and support to leadership and operational teams across DNM. Identify organizational safety risks and recommend appropriate controls and corrective measures. Lead safety assessments and integration requirements associated with new operations and acquisitions. Safety Programs & Regulatory Compliance Develop, implement, and maintain company-wide health and safety policies, programs, procedures, and standards. Ensure compliance with Ontario OHSA, Alberta OHS requirements, and applicable legislation in other jurisdictions. Monitor legislative changes and update policies, procedures, training, and documentation accordingly. Ensure safety programs address trade- and site-specific hazards, including higher-risk field operations. Partner with People & Culture where safety requirements intersect with accommodation, return-to-work, or employee relations matters. Audits, Inspections & Incident Investigation Develop and lead regular workplace audits and site inspections. Track identified deficiencies and corrective actions through to completion. Lead investigations of workplace incidents and near misses, including root-cause analysis. Maintain consistent standards for incident and near-miss reporting across operating companies. Analyze findings and safety trends to identify areas requiring additional controls or improvement. Provide regular safety performance reporting to senior leadership. WSIB/WCB & Return-to-Work Manage workplace injury reporting and claims with WSIB, WCB, and other applicable workers' compensation authorities. Ensure claims documentation and reporting requirements are completed accurately and on time. Partner with People & Culture on accommodation and return-to-work planning. Maintain accurate claims records and documentation. Monitor claims trends and support related audits and reviews. Joint Health & Safety Committees Establish and support Joint Health & Safety Committees and worker safety representation as required. Ensure meetings, inspections, training, records, and committee activities meet legislative requirements. Track committee recommendations and corrective actions through to resolution. Safety Training & Development Develop and oversee company-wide safety training and orientation requirements. Maintain standards for required certifications, training records, and renewals. Identify training needs based on legislation, operational risk, audits, and incident trends. Provide technical guidance and mentorship to the Safety Lead. Lead the development and expansion of safety resources and capabilities to meet operational requirements across DNM. Emergency Preparedness & Incident Response Develop and maintain emergency response plans appropriate to DNM's operations and sites. Ensure emergency procedures and responsibilities are documented and communicated. Act as an escalation point for significant safety incidents and urgent safety matters. Support incident response outside standard business hours when required. Operational Integration & Due Diligence Conduct safety reviews as part of acquisition due diligence when required. Identify significant hazards, compliance gaps, claims exposure, and immediate corrective requirements. Lead the alignment and integration of newly acquired operations with DNM's safety policies, programs, and standards. Partner with Labour Relations where safety requirements intersect with unionized environments or collective agreements. Performance Data & KPI Validation Monitor and validate KPIs related to safety performance and organizational objectives. Maintain accurate safety metrics, records, and supporting documentation. Submit verified monthly KPI data for corporate reporting and dashboard consolidation. Use safety data to identify trends, priorities, and opportunities for continuous improvement. What You Bring Diploma or degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Safety Management, or a related field. Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation or actively working toward designation. Minimum of 5–7 years of progressive health and safety experience, preferably within construction, skilled trades, industrial, or multi-site operations. Demonstrated experience developing or leading a COR certification program. Strong knowledge of Ontario's Occupational Health and Safety Act, WSIB requirements, and applicable regulations. Experience with Alberta OHS/WCB requirements and working across multiple Canadian jurisdictions. Experience conducting workplace audits, inspections, hazard assessments, and incident investigations, root-cause analysis, and corrective action processes. Experience developing and maintaining health and safety policies, procedures, training programs, and compliance documentation. Experience overseeing safety across multiple locations or operating companies. Experience with construction, HVAC, plumbing, mechanical services, manufacturing, underground utilities, hydrovac, or related operations. Experience with safety due diligence and the integration of new operations or acquisitions. Experience mentoring and developing safety professionals. Experience working within both unionized and non-union environments. Strong analytical, organizational, documentation, and reporting skills. Ability to interpret legislation and translate regulatory requirements into practical workplace standards. Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively across field, operational, management, and senior leadership teams. Working Conditions Hybrid position with flexibility to be based outside of Sault Ste. Marie, subject to operational requirements. Regular travel to DNM operating locations, Canada-wide. Regular presence at active job sites and operating locations is required. Flexibility to respond to significant safety incidents outside regular business hours when necessary.
