About the Mission

We are looking for a Senior SCADA Software Engineer to join a dynamic development team responsible for a business-critical SCADA platform operating 24/7 across Belgium, France, Germany, and the Netherlands.

The platform supports the real-time monitoring and control of power-generation assets, the integration of flexible energy resources, and compliance with European grid codes. It also facilitates data exchange with Transmission System Operators and calculates real-time setpoints based on production plans, live acquisition data, FCR, aFRR, and mFRR inputs.

Key Responsibilities

Develop and maintain a highly available SCADA platform based on Hitachi Energy MicroSCADA X SYS600.

Work across backend and frontend development using SCIL, HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, and TypeScript.

Design scalable, robust, and resilient software solutions.

Apply software architecture, design patterns, and software craftsmanship principles such as SOLID, DRY, KISS, and YAGNI.

Write clean, maintainable, and reliable code for a business-critical industrial environment.

Investigate production incidents, implement rapid operational fixes, and deliver sustainable corrective solutions.

Contribute to version-control and CI/CD practices using GitHub.

Collaborate with developers, analysts, architects, dispatchers, business representatives, and technical teams.

Work within an Agile/SAFe environment.

Contribute proactively to improving the technical environment and development practices.

Participate in the on-call support rotation after onboarding to ensure system availability and grid stability.

Required Profile

Master’s degree in computer science, software engineering, electrical engineering, electronics, electromechanics, or a related discipline.

At least three years of relevant software development experience.

Strong software-engineering foundations, including software architecture and design patterns.

Web development experience with HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, and TypeScript.

Experience with version control and CI/CD practices.

Industrial mindset and experience developing stable, resilient, or business-critical applications.

Basic understanding of electricity production and power-grid transmission.

Strong analytical and troubleshooting capabilities.

Ability to respond effectively to critical production incidents.

Proactive, structured, and solution-oriented approach.

Strong ownership and accountability.

Ability to learn independently and take initiatives.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to communicate with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Team-oriented mindset and ability to work within complex project organizations.

Preferred Skills

Experience with Hitachi Energy MicroSCADA X SYS600.

Knowledge of SCIL or another SCADA-specific programming language.

Experience with SCADA, Industrial Control Systems, or Operational Technology environments.

Experience in the energy, utilities, or power-generation sector.

Knowledge of real-time energy-balancing mechanisms such as FCR, aFRR, and mFRR.

Experience supporting systems operating continuously on a 24/7 basis.

Familiarity with Agile or SAFe.

Understanding of industrial cybersecurity principles.

Awareness of NIS2 requirements.

Previous SCIL expertise is valuable but not mandatory. The selected consultant will complete the “SYS 600 SCIL Programming Basics” training at the beginning of the assignment and receive support from the team during the first months.

Assignment Details

Location: Linkebeek, Belgium.

Hybrid working model with a minimum of three days per week on site.

Remote work may be possible for the remaining days, depending on operational requirements.

Frequent visits to operational teams in Brussels.

Occasional visits to power-generation or industrial sites.

Exceptional short international business trips may be required.

Flexible working hours, with the working day starting no later than 09:00 and ending no earlier than 16:00.

Valid driving licence and access to a car required.

Initial estimated workload: 220 days or 1,760 hours.

Opportunity for a medium- to long-term engagement.

Participation in on-call support is required after onboarding.
