About Stitch
Stitch is a British design studio. We develop bags and soft goods for brands in the UK, Europe and North America, and for our own brands, taking products from research through to production.
Our team is split between the UK and Indonesia, working close to the factories we produce with. Every product runs through our own development system, built for faster turnaround than the traditional route.
The role
Reports to the design director.
You will take products from research and concept through to an approved pre-production sample.
You would work directly with our design director, and in time have a junior designer alongside you.
Some of it is client work for brands in the UK, Europe and North America. Some of it is one of our own brands, not yet launched, where the positioning and the range are still open and you would have a real say in what the products are.
The role is remote. You would meet our design director in person regularly and travel to our factories in Jakarta and Semarang, with occasional trips to Vietnam. How often depends on where you are based, and we will agree it at interview. If you are close to the factories, visits may be more frequent, which some people prefer for the time in person. Beyond that, where you work is up to you.
This is our first senior hire, so the role and the way we work will develop around you.
What you would do
Research and concept
- Market, category and customer research at the start of a project
- Concept generation and development from a brief
- 2D and 3D visualisation for client review
- Product roadmaps and range architecture with the design director
- Building the presentation decks for each stage, for internal and client sign-off
Development
- Tech packs. Technical drawings, construction detail, points of measure, materials, trims and BOM
- Construction and sample comments to factories, written and in person
- Prototype and pre-production sample review against spec
- Sample tracking against the critical path
- Sourcing and approving materials, trims and hardware
- Costing input, and understanding how a construction decision affects the price
- Factory visits for sample review and production follow-up
Studio
- Running sign-off stages with the design director
- Keeping files, specifications and revisions organised
- Keeping our project management system up to date at every stage
- Owning and improving our templates and construction standards
- Finding better ways to use the tools we work with
Everything else
- Presenting work on client calls
- Photographing samples, for reviews and for our own use
- Buying competitor products and disassembling them to study the construction
- Keeping the materials library and sample archive organised
- Sample shipping paperwork when needed
- Trade shows and sourcing trips
- Input on packaging and product copy
- Helping the junior designer develop
- Field testing, which sometimes means using the product yourself
We are a small team. Some weeks you will do things that are not on this list. We are telling you now so it is not a surprise.
What we are looking for
Essential
- Five or more years designing and developing soft goods to mass production, with depth in backpacks, luggage or technical carry, and a portfolio that shows it
- Able to take a brief through research and concept to a resolved design
- Strong on bag construction, harness systems, materials, trims and hardware
- Adobe Illustrator, and working knowledge of Figma, which we use for decks and specs
- Comfortable working in project management and PLM software. Every detail of a product's development is tracked in our own system
- Strong with AI tools. We use Claude every day for research, writing and visualisation
- Sketching and visualisation, 2D and ideally 3D
- Able to build clear, well laid out presentation decks. Most of our work is signed off from a deck, so how it is presented matters
- Writing clear construction and sample comments that a factory can act on
- Excellent written and spoken English
- Fluent Bahasa Indonesia
- Organised. Clear file structures and version control
- Able to work independently and manage your own time in a remote role
- Comfortable on a factory floor
- Based in Indonesia with the right to work here
Nice to have
- CAD. Rhino, or Solidworks for hardware
- 3D visualisation. Keyshot, Blender or CLO
- Export OEM, or exposure to Western buyer standards
- Pattern making, or time spent sewing
- Costing or sourcing
If you do not match every line, apply anyway and tell us why.
What we offer
- Very competitive salary, reviewed at six months then annually. We will ask what you are looking for early on
- Remote. Work from wherever suits you
- Monday to Friday. Hours are flexible around your life, within reason. A school pickup, an appointment, and similar. What matters is that the work gets done. If you prefer a fixed schedule, the expected hours are 08:30 to 17:30. No unpaid overtime
- Twelve days of annual leave plus the gazetted public holidays, 28 days off a year in total. We are an international company, so we do not observe cuti bersama or close for an extended period at Lebaran. Your twelve days stay yours to place. Take them at Lebaran, at Christmas, at Nyepi, or spread them through the year
- BPJS Kesehatan and Ketenagakerjaan, and THR, handled properly
- Travel to our factories in Jakarta and Semarang, and occasionally to Vietnam. Frequency agreed at interview, depending on where you are based. Travel and accommodation covered
- A machine at the end of probation, and a setup budget from day one for keyboard, mouse, cables and similar
- Training budget
- Permanent contract, PKWTT, three month probation. Payroll is administered through an employer of record
The work is demanding, and you will be trusted to manage it your own way.
How to apply
Apply below with your CV. As the first step we will ask for a portfolio link and two short written answers.
The portfolio should show two things. Concept and design work, so we can see how you think. And products you have taken through to production, with a short note on each: what the brief was, what you did, and what shipped. Photographs of finished product are fine. We want to see what you have made, not only what you have drawn.
One request: please write your answers yourself, without AI. We use AI every day and we want you to be good with it, but here we need to see how you think and how you write in English, because both matter in this role. AI-written answers are easy to recognise, and they will count against you. If your English depends on AI, it will show at interview, and it is better for both of us to know now.
Process
We reply to everyone within two weeks. Then a thirty minute call, a short paid exercise of around three hours using a brief we write, and a longer conversation.
No agencies, please.
Proses rekrutmen dan seleksi tidak dipungut biaya apapun.
