Agnostic backend: Kotlin, Java, C#, .Net, Python, Node, Go
Remote-first, UK (London once a month)
Up to £95,000 + bonus
The company
Our client runs a global SaaS platform that helps thousands of businesses make their supply chains more socially and environmentally sustainable. Their customers use the platform to manage, assess and report on ESG performance, so the problems are real and the impact goes well beyond the product.
They’re investing in modern engineering: AI-assisted development, continuous delivery and small product teams where engineers work directly with product and design.
The role
You’ll join a cross-functional product team as a senior engineer, mainly building backend services in Kotlin. You’ll work with your product manager and designer to understand what customers need, then design, build and run the software that meets it. The team ships to production 10+ times a day, safely and with full test coverage, and owns its services in production.
What you’ll do
- Design and build reliable, secure services using test-driven development
- Break work into small pieces that ship value to customers steadily
- Monitor and support your code in production
- Mentor less experienced engineers through code review, pairing and knowledge sharing
- Explain technical risk and tech debt to technical and non-technical colleagues
- Use AI coding assistants every day, judge their output critically, and help the team use them well
What you’ll bring
- 5+ years of commercial software engineering in agile, test-driven teams
- Strong skills in a backend language: Kotlin, Java, C#, Go, Node.js/TypeScript or Python. Kotlin is a bonus, not a requirement
- Deep experience of automated testing and TDD
- A good grasp of service-oriented architecture, API design and integration patterns
- Experience with Docker, Kubernetes and Helm, relational and NoSQL databases, and messaging tools such as Kafka
- Deep knowledge of CI/CD and a DevOps mindset
- Hands-on use of AI coding assistants, and the judgement to know when not to rely on them
- Experience mentoring less experienced engineers, and enjoyment of collaborative work such as pairing
