Who We Are
Neighborly Software was built to help communities make a difference in the lives of low-income families and vulnerable populations. Our mission is simple, “Helping Communities, Help People.”

Headquartered in Atlanta, GA we offer a cloud-based technology platform for the administration and disbursement of governments funds for programs such as Housing, Economic, Community Development, Disaster Recovery/MIT, Home Energy Rebate Programs, and Housing Choice Voucher programs.

Senior Software Engineer

We are looking for a hands-on Senior Software Engineer to design, build, and ship features on our next-generation, enterprise platform. Working within a scrum team, you will deliver cloud-native solutions end to end, hold a high bar for code quality, and use AI throughout your day-to-day development. We are a Claude shop – we build with Anthropic’s Claude and Claude Code every day – and we’re looking for an engineer who uses these tools effectively and responsibly to ship better software, faster. If you have the passion and experience to work on cloud solutions, service-oriented architecture, APIs, Data/Analytics, and AI-assisted engineering – this is an opportunity for you.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and deliver features and services for the platform, ensuring solutions are scalable, secure, and maintainable

  • Use Claude and Claude Code effectively across your daily workflow – design, coding, code review, testing, debugging, and documentation – to improve both speed and quality

  • Apply and help refine the team’s practices for AI-assisted development (prompting/context strategies, reviewing AI-generated code, and catching insecure or low-quality AI output before it ships)

  • Build cloud-native, service-oriented solutions using Azure services, APIs, and modern frameworks

  • Translate functional requirements into technical designs and break work down into well-scoped deliverables

  • Partner with Product Managers, QA, and your scrum team to deliver high-impact features

  • Write clean, well-tested code, participate actively in code reviews, and contribute to continuous improvement of platform reliability, performance, and security

  • Contribute to prototypes and proofs-of-concept on emerging technologies – including AI/LLM capabilities – alongside senior technical leaders

  • Troubleshoot and resolve production issues, and contribute to root-cause analysis and follow-up fixes

  • Share knowledge within your team through pairing, design discussions, and constructive code review

  • Ensure software meets all requirements for quality, security, modifiability, extensibility, and compliance

Qualification and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science

  • At least 5-7 years of software development experience, with a track record of delivering production systems

  • Strong proficiency in C#/.NET and React/Angular; Python a plus

  • 3+ years in Cloud Engineering (Azure/AWS/GCP, Azure preferred)

  • Hands-on experience using AI coding assistants (Claude Code, Codex or Cursor) – Claude / Claude Code preferred – to build production software, and the judgment to know when and how to rely on them

  • Working understanding of LLMs and AI-assisted engineering: prompting and context management, evaluating AI-generated code, and the security, privacy, and quality considerations involved

  • Ability to independently design and deliver features of moderate to high complexity, and to translate functional requirements into technical design

  • Experience building and consuming RESTful APIs and microservices

  • Experience with automated testing (unit and integration), CI/CD pipelines, and Git-based workflows

  • Experience building AI-powered product features (e.g., LLM integrations) – a plus

  • Data platform experience (Snowflake/Azure/AWS – Snowflake/Azure preferred) – a plus

  • Analytics visualization using Power BI – a plus

Why You’ll Love Working Here:

  • Comprehensive Benefits – Medical, Dental, Vision plan options and Company-Paid Short-Term Disability and Life Insurance

  • 401K Contributions – Generous employer match with immediate vesting

  • Generous Time Off – 5 weeks of PTO, 9 paid holidays, and 3 days of volunteer time off each year
