About This Role: We’re looking for a full-time Senior Software Engineer to join our Engineering team reporting to the Director, Software Engineering . This role is a hybrid role based out of our Bangalore, India, or our Hyderabad, India location. In this role, you'll play a key role in modernising a high-traffic PHP platform powering community experiences for some of the world's largest enterprise companies by contributing to an active PHP 7.x → 8.4 migration and building production-grade backend services at scale. This is a great opportunity for someone who thrives in a complex, high-ownership engineering environment and enjoys working cross-functionally with teams like product, QA, DevOps, and design. The ideal candidate brings strong skills in PHP backend development, RESTful API design, and AI-assisted engineering workflows. What You'll Do: Contribute actively to the PHP 7.x → 8.4 migration — introducing typed properties, union types, named arguments, enums, and fibers incrementally and sustainably alongside the migration lead. Build and maintain backend services and RESTful APIs with a focus on clarity, testability, and production reliability. Write code that survives scrutiny — including code produced with AI assistance — reviewing AI output with the same rigour applied to any other diff. Work with MySQL for schema design, indexing, and query optimisation. Participate in code reviews, contribute to engineering standards, and flag technical debt with pragmatic, actionable proposals. Collaborate with product, QA, DevOps, and design teams across India, Poland, and the Netherlands. Contribute to technical discussions and help shape how the team works, not just what it builds. This is not a complete list of responsibilities, and the scope of the role may evolve with the needs of the team and business. This role will require occasional travel for team meetings, training, or company events. What We're Looking For: 3–5 years of professional backend development experience and a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience) Hands-on experience with PHP 8.x features and solid working knowledge of PHP 7.x Experience with at least one major PHP framework: Laravel, Symfony, or equivalent Experience designing and building RESTful APIs and integrating with third-party services Solid working knowledge of MySQL — schema design, indexing, and query optimisation Experience with Git, code reviews, and CI/CD pipelines Practical, daily use of AI-assisted development tools such as Cursor, GitHub Copilot, or Claude Code — with the ability to review AI-generated output critically and articulate where each tool excels and where it falls short Confidence navigating, reading, and improving a large established codebase without a complete map Nice to have: Experience with PHP migration or legacy modernization projects Familiarity with AWS services, event-driven architecture, caching strategies, or frontend frameworks such as React Why You'll Love It Here: Gainsight is a place where innovation is shaped through collaboration, curiosity, and a shared focus on solving real-world problems.
