Title : Senior Backend Software Engineer — Connected Tables Team : Connected Tables Location : Bulgaria (Remote-first, Sofia office available) Reporting to : Sr Manager, Software Engineering About the Role Quickbase is looking for an experienced Senior Software Engineer to help build and evolve the platform services that power data integration, synchronization, and governance across our no-code platform. In this role, you will design, develop, and operate backend systems that connect customers' business data, enable reliable data movement at scale, and provide the infrastructure that helps organizations manage information across teams and applications. You'll work on highly available distributed systems, partner closely with Product Managers and Designers, and contribute to the technical direction of a platform used by organizations around the world. This is a senior individual contributor role with significant ownership and influence. You'll help shape architecture, drive engineering excellence, mentor peers, and solve complex technical challenges that impact customers across the Quickbase ecosystem. The Connected Tables team has a strong engineering presence in Bulgaria and collaborates closely with teammates in both Bulgaria and the United States. We operate as a remote-first team with optional access to our Sofia office. Skills and Experience You Bring Required • Strong experience building and operating production-grade backend systems in Java. • Experience designing and implementing scalable services, APIs, data synchronization systems, data pipelines, or integration platforms. • Solid understanding of distributed systems concepts including reliability, resiliency, consistency, race conditions, fault tolerance, observability, and performance at scale. • Experience working with cloud-based infrastructure and modern deployment practices. • Strong engineering fundamentals including system design, testing, performance optimization, and maintainable software architecture. • Demonstrated ability to independently own projects from design through production delivery. • Experience writing automated tests and building software with quality, maintainability, and operational excellence in mind. • Demonstrated technical leadership through design reviews, architecture discussions, mentoring, and raising engineering standards across a team. • Ability to collaborate effectively with Product Managers, Designers, Engineers, and other stakeholders to translate business needs into technical solutions. • Strong communication skills and the ability to explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences. • Experience using AI-assisted development tools to improve engineering productivity, code quality, documentation, testing, and delivery workflows. Nice to Have • Experience with data synchronization, ETL systems, integration platforms, or event-driven architectures. • Experience working with multi-tenant SaaS platforms. • Experience with C#, .NET, or other platform technologies commonly found in large-scale web applications. • Familiarity with observability tooling, monitoring, and production incident response. • Experience working with globally distributed engineering teams. What You'll Be Doing • Design, build, test, and maintain backend services that power data integration and synchronization across the Quickbase platform. • Develop reliable, scalable systems that move data between applications and services. • Collaborate with Product Managers, Designers, and Engineers to deliver customer-focused solutions. • Participate in architecture discussions, code reviews, and technical design decisions. • Improve system reliability, observability, performance, and operational excellence. • Mentor engineers through technical guidance, design feedback, and knowledge sharing. • Identify opportunities to simplify systems, automate workflows, and improve engineering efficiency. Within One Year • Be recognized as a trusted technical leader within the team. • Drive architectural discussions and help solve complex engineering challenges. • Mentor peers and contribute meaningfully to the long-term evolution of the platform.
