Careers that change lives start here. Medtronic is a global leader in healthcare technology with a Mission to alleviate pain, restore health, and extend life. Our 95,000 employees work across more than 150 countries to put patients first — developing innovative medical technologies that improve the lives of 72+ million patients each year. Your unique talents will help shape the future of healthcare while building a career grounded in purpose, growth, and impact.

A Day in the Life

At Medtronic Patient Care Systems (PCS), we power the digital heartbeat behind life-saving cardiac therapies. We build the connected ecosystem that enables clinicians to monitor, manage, and protect millions of patients living with implantable cardiac devices around the world.

From secure device connectivity and real-time data platforms to intelligent clinical tools and patient-facing experiences, PCS transforms complex cardiac data into clarity — helping physicians make faster decisions, improving outcomes, and giving patients greater confidence in their care.

Every line of code we write supports someone’s parent, spouse, child, or friend. Our work ensures that life-saving therapies are not only delivered safely and reliably, but continuously improved through innovation, insight, and global scale.

If you want to build technology that truly matters — where uptime means peace of mind and innovation means more birthdays — join us. Together, we are shaping the future of connected cardiac care and changing lives every single day

Come for a job, stay for a career!

As a Senior Software Engineer within Medtronic Patient Care Systems (PCS), you will join Eagle Eye, the team that turns field data from SmartSync device logs to insight for our connected cardiac care ecosystem. The team works in two areas: an Elastic data platform that ingests, processes, and monitors Smartsync device logs, and Field Investigations, which uses that data to investigate field complaints and issues and their root cause.

You will work across both areas, collaborating with R&D, software engineering quality, complaint handling, and field partners in the US and Ireland to deliver reliable, validated data tools and clear, evidence-based investigation results within a regulated medical device environment.

A Day in The Life Of:

  • Design, develop, test, and maintain Python data-processing services (Azure Functions) that ingest, parse and analyze SmartSync device logs at scale.
  • Build and maintain Elastic Stack content on Elastic Cloud, including ingest pipelines, Elastic Common Schema (ECS) mappings, data streams, lifecycle policies, and transforms.
  • Administer and evolve the Elastic Cloud platform, including version upgrades, capacity and scaling, security roles, and infrastructure as code.
  • Create Kibana dashboards, alerting rules, and monitoring that track data health, ingestion delay, and issue trend.
  • Investigate field complaints and issues by analyzing SmartSync logs, implant session data, and device information to determine root cause.
  • Write clear investigation summaries and reports that support complaint handling, CAPAs, health hazard evaluations, and FDA summary reporting.
  • Automate recurring investigations with Python scripts and issue detection rules so issues are found earlier and more consistently.
  • Release and deploy the teams tools through Azure DevOps pipelines and Octopus Deploy, and complete the method validation and documentation required in a regulated environment.
  • Partner with R&D, quality, complaint handling, and field teams to turn questions from the field into data, tools, and answers.
  • Mentor and coach engineers, fostering a collaborative, learning focused team environment.

Senior-Level Expectations

Leadership & Influence

  • Contribute to technical decisions involving data platform design, data quality, investigation tooling, and engineering practices.
  • Partner with complaint handling, quality, and R&D stakeholders to understand their underlying questions and translate them to practical, maintainable data solutions.
  • Use technical and investigative judgment to separate signal from noise, and communicate findings, and the confidence in them, clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to peers, users of the team's dashboards and tools, and project partners.
  • Collaborate with engineering and quality teams and leadership in a matrixed organization.

Technical Depth & Innovation

  • Design data pipelines and tools that scale with growing data volumes while protecting data accuracy, completeness, and timeliness.
  • Evolve data schemas, tools, and dashboards while maintaining compatibility for downstream users, reports, and integrations, and provide migration paths when changes are needed.
  • Diagnose performance, memory, and reliability issues in data processing, and drive them to root cause with measurable results.
  • Apply software architecture and design principles to develop reliable and maintainable data services and tool.
  • Leverage AI tools and agents to support code development, data analysis, investigation summaries, and troubleshooting, applying strong judgment to validate outputs.

Key Skills & Experience Must Have: Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in software engineering.
  • Significant professional experience designing, developing, debugging, and maintaining software across the development lifecycle, using Python or a comparable language.
  • Experience building data pipelines or analytics on large volumes of log or event data

Preferred Qualifications

While not required familiarity with one or more of the following will provide a strong foundation for success:

  • Experience with the Elastic Stack (Elasticsearch, Kibana, ingest pipelines, transforms), ideally on Elastic Cloud.
  • Experience with Elasticsearch query and scripting languages: Query DSL, ES|QL, kibana Query Language (KQL), and Painless
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure, including Azure Functions and Azure monitor/Application Insights (Kusto Query Language).
  • Experience with CI/CD and release using Azure Pipelines, Octopus Deploy, and SonarQube.
  • Experience with infrastructure as code using Terraform.
  • Experience investigating software issues found in the field and performing root cause analysis from logs and diagnostic data.
  • Familiarity with complaint handling CAPA, and post-market surveillance processes, and with TrackWise.
  • Experience validating software tools used in regulated processes
  • Experience applying AI or large language models to data analysis or reporting.
  • Familiarity with regulated product development and standards such as ISO 13485, IEC 62304, ISO 14971, and 21 CFR 820.
  • Experience with Agile methodologies.
  • Experience using Azure DevOps and/or GitHub.
  • Strong collaboration, communication, and technical documentation skills
