What we are looking for

We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer with a strong background in Java, backend development and distributed systems. This position has a significant focus on software architecture, system design and engineering judgement, rather than purely hands-on coding.

The ideal candidate will have:

• Strong commercial experience with Java and Spring Boot or similar backend technologies.
• Excellent understanding of software architecture and system design.
• Experience designing microservices and distributed systems.
• Strong knowledge of event-driven architecture and asynchronous systems.
• Understanding of Domain-Driven Design (DDD) and SOLID principles.
• Experience with CQRS, Event Sourcing and software design patterns.
• Strong REST API / API-first design experience.
• Experience with both relational and NoSQL databases.
• Knowledge of highly available, resilient and fault-tolerant systems.
• Strong understanding of CI/CD, automated testing and DevOps practices.
• Experience working with complex enterprise platforms.

Responsibilities

• Design and evolve scalable, secure and highly available backend platforms.
• Translate complex business requirements into well-designed technical solutions.
• Design microservices, APIs, workflows and event-driven systems.
• Make key architectural and software design decisions across distributed environments.
• Work closely with Product, Architecture and Platform teams on technical solutions.
• Ensure applications are scalable, maintainable, observable and operationally resilient.
• Review technical solutions and maintain high engineering and architectural standards.
• Troubleshoot complex production issues and perform root-cause analysis.
• Use AI-assisted development tools to accelerate software delivery while maintaining quality, security and maintainability.

Experience with any of the following would be advantageous:

• AWS or Azure
• Kubernetes
• Kafka or similar messaging/event technologies
• Observability and application monitoring
• GitHub Copilot, Claude, Cursor or similar AI development tools
• Financial services, payments or transaction-processing platforms
• Complex workflow or state-machine systems
• High-volume, business-critical enterprise applications
