Senior Software Engineer - Systems

Thought Pennies Entertainment is a Role-Playing Game studio creating games focused on emotional storytelling. The Senior Software Engineer - Systems is expected to work with minimal oversight and to collaborate actively with their customers to deliver well crafted systems that meet all design and technical requirements. They are able to utilize their expertise to use all the tools, infrastructure and core technology provided by Unreal Engine to bring RPGs to life. They will report to the Studio Technical Director, but will work independently within various feature groups. What you do: Be the primary owner of RPG systems and of online/platform integration Work well within Unreal's existing technology and best practices to achieve results Architect large, data-driven systems with strong tooling built on top Support save/load core technology Understand multiplayer system requirements such as efficient data replication or client prediction Own Steam and other platform integration points Plan and execute support for modding as a first class citizen Be the champion of modular and reusable system architecture Provide critical feedback (quantitative as well as qualitative) to the creative teams What you bring: Strong C++, OO, and architecture skills Great communication skills Strong understanding of online multiplayer concepts Understanding of RPG genre and willingness to engage with Design team One or more of the following: Understanding of designer data flows for authoring RPG systems out of reusable components Experience crafting gameplay systems such as inventory, quests, or crafting Experience creating great tooling for customers Experience creating large multiplayer gameplay systems that properly handle packet loss, lag, and client prediction Experience with Steam or other platform integration Ability to analyze and resolve network performance issues Understanding of best practices around managing game state across Host and Client Deep expertise in RPG system development not mentioned above Plus if you have it: Unreal Engine experience
