Senior Software Engineer - Wordpress

Growth Leads is a lead generation company building high-performance content and data-driven websites across iGaming, Financial Services, Health, and Communications. We are hiring a Lead Developer / Systems Architect to help drive the scalability, reliability, and long-term evolution of our PHP and WordPress platform. About the role This is a senior engineering role focused on backend architecture, scalability, system reliability, and advanced WordPress development. You will define technical direction across PHP and WordPress systems, contribute to platform architecture, and work closely with engineering, SEO, product, and growth teams to deliver scalable and maintainable solutions. What you'll do Architect and maintain scalable PHP and WordPress systems Lead technical direction for backend architecture and platform reliability Build and extend backend services, APIs, and integrations Develop and maintain custom WordPress functionality Improve application performance, scalability, and maintainability Define engineering standards and development best practices Support integrations with analytics, SEO, and third-party systems Identify and resolve architectural and performance bottlenecks Mentor engineers and contribute to long-term technical strategy What we're looking for Extensive PHP 8+ experience at lead or architect level Strong advanced WordPress development experience Deep understanding of WordPress architecture and best practices Experience building custom WordPress themes and plugins Strong backend systems and API development experience Strong understanding of scalability, performance optimisation, and system reliability Experience with relational databases, caching, and asynchronous processing Experience working on high-traffic or content-heavy platforms Strong Git and collaborative engineering workflow experience Strong systems thinking and problem-solving ability Preferred Experience Experience in lead generation, affiliate, or digital publishing environments Experience with SEO-focused platforms Exposure to CI/CD, cloud infrastructure, or DevOps practices Experience with analytics or tracking integrations Experience working in fast-paced growth environments What we offer Ownership & Impact: You will help shape the architecture, scalability, and long-term direction of a growing digital platform operating in competitive industries Flexibility: Remote working environment, or come join us at our office in Malta Competitive Compensation: We offer competitive compensation packages, with opportunities for performance-based incentives
