Description Senior Structural Project Engineer (Hybrid) The expected base salary range for this role is $ 120,000-$145,000 per year. Actual compensation will be determined based on a number of factors including skills, experience, qualifications, and location. This role is also eligible for performance-based bonuses and a comprehensive U.S. based benefits package, including: Medical, dental, and vision insurance 401(k) with company match 5 weeks of paid time off and company holidays Wellness programs and employee assistance resources Professional development support For more information, visit our full benefits overview here - www.salasobrien.com/benefits Job Summary: The selected candidate will engage in all phases of project development—from inception through construction—while building strong relationships with clients, owners, internal team members, and contractors. Projects may include: Higher Education Healthcare Facilities Industrial Facilities Research & Science Facilities Parking Facilities K-12 Educational Buildings Mixed-Use Developments Hospitality New Buildings & Additions Complex Renovations General Duties Lead the analysis, design, and management of structural systems for commercial, institutional, and residential buildings Serve as the primary structural point of contact for owners, architects, and consultants Manage project schedules, budgets, and deliverables across multiple projects Perform structural analysis and design in compliance with applicable codes and standards Prepare construction documents, calculations, technical reports, plans, and specifications Conduct field reviews of existing and under-construction structures Review shop drawings, respond to RFIs, and support construction administration Mentor junior staff and contribute to technical growth Track project costs and schedules efficiently to meet contractual obligations Support client relationship building and business development efforts Project-related travel within New England and periodic travel beyond Qualifications BS in Civil Engineering with an emphasis in Structural Engineering; MS preferred Professional Engineer (PE) license required (Maine PE or ability to obtain SE a plus) 10+ years of experience in building structural design, additions, renovations, and infrastructure projects Experience with steel, concrete, masonry, precast, cold-formed metal, and wood-framed structures Proven experience managing multiple projects from concept to construction in a fast-paced environment Skills Proficiency in Revit, RAM, Bluebeam, and MS Office Strong knowledge of building codes (IBC, ASCE 7, AISC, ACI, etc.) Excellent communication, leadership, problem-solving, and organizational skills Location : Portland, ME (hybrid) Travel : Up to 10% About Us Founded in 1975, Salas O’Brien is an employee-owned engineering and professional services firm focused on achieving impact for our clients, our team, and the world.
