Wellington Management offers comprehensive investment management capabilities that span nearly all segments of the global capital markets. Our investment solutions, tailored to the unique return and risk objectives of institutional clients in more than 60 countries, draw on a robust body of proprietary research and a collaborative culture that encourages independent thought and healthy debate. As a private partnership, we believe our ownership structure fosters a long-term view that aligns our perspectives with those of our clients.
About the Role
At Wellington Management our appetite for technology is insatiable. We recognize that the world is full of fascinating questions that will impact the future of companies, economies, financial markets, and entire industries. We want you to help us find answers to these questions by building and evolving our innovative, industry leading, technology platform. We are seeking qualified candidates to join our expanding technology team. Together, you will not only dream up solutions to today’s investment challenges, but you will build them to see real-life results. Technology needs are advancing, and this level of complexity requires a highly sophisticated well-managed technology platform that is built by people like you. This is your chance to build something incredible. We want you to think big, to solve challenges, and positively impact our clients.
JOB OVERVIEW
The Post-Trade Technologies team plays a critical role in providing the technology platform and support for the firm’s global Trade Coordination and Trade Operations teams to process trade confirmations and settlements with our brokers and custodians. We are currently seeking a strong Senior Systems Analyst with expert level SQL skills to play a key role in delivering solutions to our business partners, solve complex problems, and strive to advance and sustain a world-class platform. Since the role requires frequent interaction with both business users and IT stakeholders across multiple teams - excellent communication, collaboration and delivery skills are essential. You will work with, and learn from exceptional investment, trading and operations professionals through cross-platform, data driven projects and assignments. The ideal candidate is as curious about the business as they are about the technology.
You will immerse yourself in the daily work of our Settlements and Trade Operations analysts to understand why different trade operational procedures exist, dig into production data with SQL to diagnose issues and anticipate the problems our users will want solved next, and understand how our applications are built well enough to brainstorm and design optimal workflows alongside our developers. We are looking for someone who treats every project as their own: you are passionate about what you build, you take the initiative to push it forward, and you stay invested in its success long after go-live, all while working effectively under pressure and balancing multiple priorities. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced IT professional to join a strong, collaborative team in a senior level role.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage production incidents, using SQL to dive into production data and trace issues end to end, determining root cause, appropriate corrective actions and follow-up
- Interact directly with business partners at all levels of the organization to define, analyze, and document requirements, as well as set priorities
- Act as a champion and trusted advisor for the needs of our business partners
- Develop deep knowledge and expertise in Wellington specific workflows, including the trade confirmation and settlement lifecycle, and the reasons behind each operational procedure, market convention and control, not just the steps
- Spend time with Settlements and Operations analysts to observe their processes first-hand, and use that understanding to anticipate pain points and propose solutions before they are requested
- Author functional, design and support documentation
- Collaborate with software developers, database architects, vendors and other IT and business teams to analyze and determine functional specifications and UI design for new applications and enhancements to existing applications, acting as a design partner who understands how our applications, data flows and interfaces are built and can help shape the optimal workflow
- Develop a strong partnership with the delivery team to ensure on-time, scalable, and high-quality business solutions
- Provide regular status reporting and issue tracking on projects
- Provide input into system design to help the development team define effort and implementation schedules
- Provide oversight for the various phases of testing and user acceptance
- On a rotational basis, provide production support to our business users and act as an escalation point person for support issues that require detailed analysis and management
- Engage in Vendor/Broker management tasks and work with our business team to execute project work, enhancements and raise defects on vendor platforms
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Business, Economics, Finance or related subject
- 5+ years of business analysis or system analysis experience
- Strong, hands-on SQL skills, with demonstrated experience writing queries against relational databases to investigate production issues, reconcile data across systems and uncover root causes
- Demonstrated interest in using AI and advanced tooling to enhance business analysis workflows, including requirements development, data exploration, testing and knowledge discovery
- Understanding of financial instruments such as equities, bonds, swaps, options, futures, forwards and FX, and of the post-trade lifecycle for these instruments (allocation, confirmation, settlement and fails management)
- Excellent verbal and written presentation and communication skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with high attention to detail
- Strong client relationship skills and proven ability to build consensus
- Candidates must possess a unique blend of business and technical savvy; a big-picture vision, and an ability to work with various internal teams to execute on that vision, along with a working understanding of how applications are built (databases, interfaces and data flows, batch versus real-time processing) sufficient to brainstorm and design workflows with developers
- Experience working directly with business partners to understand their needs and deliver solutions that meet those needs, ideally in a trade operations, settlements or other middle/back-office environment
- Experience writing requirements, functional specifications, use cases, and test plans
- Experience in IT change, incident and problem management and SDLC
- Change agent, creative, innovative and focused on continuous improvement
- Experience using project tracking tools, such as Jira or Service Now
- Experience supporting critical production applications
- High degree of enthusiasm to work independently in an energetic, fast-paced, business-critical and team oriented-environment
- Intellectual curiosity about how our business partners work and to learn independently and from peers
