ABOUT BAKER BOTTS
Baker Botts is a leading international law firm recognized for its deep understanding of the industries it serves. With offices across major global markets, the firm delivers sophisticated legal services while cultivating a collaborative, inclusive culture where both attorneys and professional staff contribute to client success and organizational excellence.
ABOUT THE ROLE
The Senior Systems Engineer develops, maintains and supports the firm’s new business intake and conflicts applications, related integrations and reporting solutions. The role translates approved business requirements into tested workflows, integration rules and reports; resolves production issues; and maintains documentation needed for reliable ongoing support. The senior engineer assesses how changes affect connected systems and coordinates implementation with business owners, EAI colleagues, other IT teams and vendors.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
New Business Intake and Conflicts applications
- Configure, develop and maintain Intapp Open & Conflicts workflows, business rules and application enhancements. Document requirements and acceptance criteria with Intake & Conflicts stakeholders and business owners before implementation.
- Investigate application errors and performance issues using logs, queries and vendor resources; implement approved corrections and validate that affected workflows operate as intended.
- Provide technical support for Intapp Walls, including Legal Hold and Confidential Matter functionality. Configure and test approved rules and changes with Information Governance and other authorized business owners.
- Assess the effects of application and reference-data changes on connected systems, including intake, records management, finance, HR and business development. Identify dependencies and coordinate testing with affected teams.
Integration & Automation
- Design, develop and maintain integrations using Boomi, the firm’s adopted integration platform. Maintain existing Intapp Integrate, Integration Builder and SSIS interfaces where assigned. Document source and destination systems, field mappings, transformation rules, schedules and dependencies.
- Develop and modify CPI integration rules and other approved interfaces supporting Intapp Open & Conflicts. Maintain existing connections among Intapp Open & Conflicts, document management, HR, records management and financial systems, including assigned general-ledger transfers.
- Monitor assigned interfaces and scheduled processes; investigate failed runs, missing data and mapping errors. Restore processing through approved recovery procedures and validate results in the receiving system.
- Maintain error handling, logging and alerting for assigned processes. Document safe restart and reprocessing steps to reduce duplicate or incomplete transactions. Reporting and data quality
- Develop and maintain SSRS reports, Aderant timekeeper reports and assigned ad hoc reporting solutions. Confirm report definitions, filters, recipients, distribution schedules and acceptance criteria with requestors.
- Create and optimize SQL queries, stored procedures and views supporting approved reporting and integrations. Validate calculations and output against source data and investigate discrepancies.
- Deploy approved reports, maintain the SSRS catalog and subscriptions, and manage access and distribution according to firm requirements. Migrate reports to approved reporting environments when assigned.
Change Delivery and Production Support
- Plan and implement assigned enhancements, upgrades and integration changes. Document the design, test cases, deployment steps, validation and rollback procedure; obtain required approvals before production changes.
- Coordinate user acceptance testing with business owners and regression testing with affected technical teams. Resolve defects and confirm acceptance before closing the change or project task.
- Own assigned incidents and vendor cases through resolution or documented transfer. Record symptoms, business impact, investigation, corrective actions and results in the firm’s tracking systems.
- Coordinate with Infrastructure, Information Security, Service Desk, IT Customer Support and vendors on issues outside the application boundary; provide diagnostic evidence and verify resolution.
- Provide occasional after-hours support for high-priority incidents and planned maintenance in accordance with the team’s coverage arrangements.
Documentation and Delivery Accountability
- Maintain current system documentation, data-flow diagrams, integration inventories, configuration records, support procedures and knowledge articles in approved shared locations. Update affected documentation when changes are implemented.
- Keep assigned ServiceNow records current and provide weekly Smartsheet updates showing progress, next steps, deadlines, dependencies and risks. Raise workload conflicts, blockers and delivery risks before commitments are missed.
- Transfer knowledge through documented walkthroughs and hands-on training so designated team members can support critical processes. Identify gaps in backup coverage and training.
- Identify and pursue technical training relevant to assigned systems in coordination with the manager; apply that learning to support, development and maintenance work.
Additional Responsibilities
Support related EAI applications and initiatives as assigned by the Associate Director. Confirm requirements, priority, support boundaries and capacity before accepting additional delivery commitments. Perform other related duties as assigned.
WHAT YOU'LL BRING
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems or a related field.
- Five years of hands-on experience with Boomi, the firm’s adopted integration platform. Demonstrated ability to independently design, develop, test, deploy, monitor and troubleshoot production integrations is required; experience with other integration platforms does not substitute for Boomi expertise.
- Experience configuring and supporting business-process workflows, preferably Intapp Open, including requirements analysis, testing and production troubleshooting.
- Experience developing and distributing SSRS reports and writing SQL queries, stored procedures and views. Working knowledge of relational databases and Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio.
- Understanding of automated data loads using SSIS and experience diagnosing application and integration failures through error logs, execution history and data validation.
- Ability to document technical procedures and dependencies so another engineer can perform the work; communicate status, risks and technical findings clearly to technical and business audiences.
- Ability to prioritize competing requests, maintain accurate task records and meet agreed deadlines or escalate risks promptly.
- Ability to work with firm personnel, vendors and IT teams to define requirements, resolve issues and obtain acceptance of completed work.
- Proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications used for documentation, analysis and collaboration.
- Availability for occasional after-hours response to high-priority alerts and scheduled maintenance.
Preferred
- Experience in a law firm or other professional services firm.
- Experience with Intapp products including Intapp Open & Conflicts, Intapp Wall Builder, Integrate or Integration Builder, CPI integration rules, and legal intake or conflicts processes.
- Experience supporting integrations or reports involving DealCloud, Aderant, iManage or records management systems.
- Experience maintaining Python applications, scripts and their dependencies.
