About TxODDS
TXODDS is a premier provider of ultra low-latency, accurate odds data, fast scores, and innovative betting solutions for the global sports betting industry. With offices in London and Chicago - and team members working worldwide - we deliver cutting-edge technology and data products that power some of the world’s top sportsbooks.
About the Role
We’re looking for a Senior Systems Engineer to take direct ownership of the reliability, availability, performance, and observability of the production systems behind our portfolio of real-time sports data products. Reporting to the Chief Operations Officer, you’ll make sure our products run around the clock, delivering accurate, timely data to customers 24/7.
This is a hands-on technical leadership role with plenty of autonomy. You’ll spot weaknesses before they become outages, work closely with our Infrastructure, Backend, Data Acquisition, Scores, and Client Support teams, and help keep us running through evenings, weekends, and the biggest moments in the sporting calendar.
What you’ll do
Own reliability and performance
Own the end-to-end operation, reliability, and performance of critical real-time sports data systems, with a focus on functional correctness, high availability, low latency, and minimal downtime
Take accountability for the 24/7 health of all products, keeping systems live and data flowing
Investigate operational risks independently, make sound technical decisions, and drive problems through to resolution
Set clear ownership and performance standards so reliability and service quality stay central to technical and business decisions
Lead observability and incident response
Partner with the Infrastructure Team to design, implement, and continuously improve monitoring, observability, and fault-diagnostic practices
Lead major incident management, including coordination, stakeholder communication, service recovery, and measures to limit customer impact
Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues hands-on
Be available for out-of-hours and weekend support to resolve critical incidents quickly
Run consistent post-incident reviews, with root causes identified and corrective actions tracked through to completion
Prepare for the big moments
Lead operational readiness reviews ahead of major events such as the FIFA World Cup, Super Bowl, Indian Premier League, and college football season
Drive proactive capacity planning and performance forecasting aligned with the sporting calendar
Work with the Infrastructure Team to optimise performance and cost efficiency across cloud and physical infrastructure
Document and collaborate
Maintain and improve documentation covering system architecture, observability, diagnostics, and optimisation
Create and maintain product-specific runbooks, including incident response frameworks, escalation procedures, and repeatable recovery processes
Work with Backend Developers and Data Acquisition Engineers to keep systems integrated and aligned with technical goals
Collaborate with Client Support to investigate and resolve client-impacting issues quickly
Work with the CIO, CTO, and senior leadership to define operational priorities and ensure technology investment matches business and customer needs
Champion a collaborative, accountable, improvement-focused culture where incident learnings and performance data inform decisions
Metrics
Sustaining 99.9% uptime for critical real-time data services
Meeting per-product SLOs for availability and p99 end-to-end latency
Scaling smoothly through traffic spikes during major sporting events
Responding quickly to client-related infrastructure issues
What you’ll bring
We’re looking for someone with the skills, experience, and mindset to thrive in this role. Ideally, you’ll have:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, or a related field
Proven experience as a Systems Engineer, Infrastructure Engineer, or similar in a high-volume, data-driven company
Strong hands-on experience with a major cloud platform (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and server management
Strong proficiency with Linux/Unix systems
Scripting expertise in Python, Bash, or similar
Experience with monitoring tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, or similar
Good knowledge of scalable logging infrastructure for fault analysis, diagnostics, data quality, and performance monitoring and optimisation
The ability to work in a cross-functional team and communicate clearly with developers, engineers, and non-technical colleagues
Willingness to join out-of-hours and weekend support arrangements
What you'll get from us:
At TxODDS, you’ll be part of a well-established, technology-first company with ambitious growth plans and a global footprint. You’ll work alongside brilliant minds in a culture that’s fun, relaxed, and hardworking - where innovation and collaboration are at the heart of everything we do.
We offer a competitive benefits package tailored to your location, and we’re happy to share more details during the hiring process.
