Join a growing Tax team at a pivotal time. This is an opportunity to take ownership of indirect tax matters across a complex organisation while helping shape the future direction of tax governance, processes and capability at icare. As part of a small, high-performing team, you'll combine hands-on technical work with the opportunity to influence decision-making, drive continuous improvement and partner with stakeholders across the business. With the team expanding for the first time in many years, you'll have the chance to help build for the future and contribute to how indirect tax is managed across the organisation.
What you'll be working on
- Lead end-to-end indirect tax compliance activities, including GST, insurance duty and other indirect tax regulatory reporting requirements (e.g. Taxable Payments Annual Report)
- Provide practical advice on complex indirect tax matters and help guide business decisions with confidence
- Review emerging tax legislation and regulatory updates, translating them into clear actions and policies
- Identify opportunities to strengthen tax governance, controls and processes to improve efficiency and reduce risk
- Partner with teams across the organisation, including Finance, Risk, Legal, Procurement and Technology to embed tax considerations into business operations
- Represent the Tax function in discussions with external parties such as advisors and government authorities
- Develop guidance, training and coaching that builds indirect tax capability across the organisation
- Provide technical and operational support for employment tax compliance and advisory activities, including PAYG withholding and reporting, FBT and payroll tax, as required
What you'll bring
- Tertiary qualifications in Accounting (or a related discipline) and current CA or CPA membership
- At least 5 years' experience managing indirect tax matters within a large corporate, government organisation or large professional services environment
- Strong technical expertise across indirect tax, including GST and related compliance obligations, ideally gained through advising clients in the insurance industry or working directly within the insurance industry.
- Experience independently managing end-to-end indirect tax compliance programs and resolving complex tax issues
- Ability to analyse information, investigate complex matters and apply sound judgement to identify practical solutions
- Confidence building trusted relationships and explaining technical tax concepts to a range of stakeholders
- Experience developing or enhancing tax policies, governance frameworks, controls or operational processes
- Australian working rights and the ability to successfully complete pre-employment screening checks
