Job Description Summary:

The Senior Technical Director defines and drives the technical strategy across the DataEdge portfolio. In close partnership with Product Management, Engineering, Support, and executive leadership, this role aligns product roadmaps, platform investments, and architectural decisions with customer needs, business objectives, and Rocket’s strategy to become a platform company.

The DataEdge portfolio includes Rocket’s data integration, replication, synchronization, virtualization, and data intelligence solutions. It helps customers unlock enterprise data across distributed, cloud, and mainframe environments by making trusted data available where it is needed. As AI adoption accelerates, DataEdge delivers trusted, connected, and actionable information to the applications, platforms, models, agents, and intelligent business processes that power modern digital enterprises.

This role will evolve the portfolio into an integrated platform through cloud-native architecture, shared services, AI-enabled innovation, and cross-product collaboration. The Senior Technical Director will also work with peer technical leaders to shape the Data Modernization business unit’s technical strategy, identify shared opportunities, and align architecture and investment decisions across portfolios. Success requires technical leadership and the ability to build alignment and shared ownership.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Partner with Product Management to define the DataEdge platform strategy and translate business priorities into a shared, cross-product technical roadmap.
  • Build alignment across Product, Engineering, and Architecture, balancing product needs with DataEdge platform objectives and the shared technical direction of the Data Modernization business unit.
  • Work with peer technical leaders to shape the Data Modernization business unit’s technical strategy, align investments, and identify shared platform opportunities.
  • Drive reusable services, APIs, frameworks, and common platform capabilities while consolidating overlapping technologies.
  • Define cloud-native strategies for deployment, configuration, scalability, observability, security, and operational excellence.
  • Partner with Product and Engineering to identify, prioritize, and deliver AI platform capabilities, intelligent automation, MCP, and agentic systems that create measurable customer value and competitive differentiation.
  • Represent the DataEdge technology vision internally and externally. Use customer input, industry trends, analyst perspectives, emerging technologies, and competitive insight to shape strategy and investment priorities.
  • Shape DataEdge’s role in the broader data, analytics, and AI ecosystem through technology partnerships, industry standards, open APIs, and interoperability frameworks.
  • Raise engineering effectiveness across the portfolio by advancing AI-enabled development, testing, documentation, modernization, and delivery practices.
  • Lead architecture reviews, communicate decisions and tradeoffs, and mentor Principal Engineers, architects, and other senior technical leaders.

Required Qualifications:

  • 12+ years of software engineering, architecture, or technical leadership experience.
  • Proven experience defining architecture and technology strategy across multiple enterprise products or platforms and contributing to strategy across a broader business or portfolio.
  • Strong expertise in LLMs, agentic systems, retrieval architectures, enterprise AI integration, responsible AI patterns, and emerging interoperability standards such as MCP.
  • Demonstrated delivery of AI-enabled product capabilities and adoption of AI-enabled engineering practices.
  • Deep expertise in cloud-native architecture, containers, Kubernetes, distributed systems, and modern software delivery.
  • Experience building shared platforms, services, APIs, or reusable frameworks and leading technology consolidation.
  • Successful partnership with Product Management on strategy, roadmaps, prioritization, and investment decisions.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with peer senior technical leaders to shape strategy, resolve cross-portfolio tradeoffs, align technical investments, and influence without direct authority.
  • Demonstrated ability to shape ecosystem strategy across enterprise data, analytics, and AI, including work with customers, technology partners, industry standards, open APIs, and interoperability frameworks.
  • Exceptional communication and facilitation skills, including with executive leaders, with demonstrated experience mentoring Principal Engineers, architects, and other senior technical leaders.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, IS, or related technical discipline.
