Senior Test Automation Engineer – Cypress / TypeScript
Location: Remote (India/Philipines)
Working hours: Must be available from 9:00 am Melbourne time (AEDT as applicable)
Client: New Zealand-based
Level: Senior
Core stack: Cypress, TypeScript/JavaScript, API Automation, GitHub Actions
About the Role
CloudMarc is looking for a hands-on Senior Test Automation Engineer to join an enterprise test automation engagement.
You will work with an established Cypress automation framework and GitHub pipeline, extending and improving the existing solution rather than rebuilding it.
This is a highly collaborative, client-facing role. We need someone who combines strong automation engineering skills with a proactive, flexible and practical attitude. You should be comfortable working through ambiguity, troubleshooting problems across application, test-data and environment layers, and taking ownership rather than waiting for detailed instructions.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain end-to-end automated tests using Cypress.
- Write clean, maintainable automation code using TypeScript/JavaScript.
- Quickly understand an existing automation framework and work within its conventions.
- Develop reusable Cypress commands, helpers, fixtures and utilities.
- Implement reliable selectors, assertions, synchronisation and retry strategies.
- Investigate and resolve flaky or unreliable automated tests.
- Integrate and execute automation through GitHub Actions / CI/CD pipelines.
- Troubleshoot CI/CD failures using logs and execution artefacts.
- Build automation for workflows spanning multiple applications and services.
- Use APIs/backend services to create and manage test data where appropriate.
- Support repeatable test-data creation, clean-up and reset.
- Support automated authentication and unattended test execution.
- Diagnose whether failures originate from automation, test data, environment or application behaviour.
- Participate actively in Git branching, pull requests and code reviews.
- Work directly with CloudMarc and client engineering teams to resolve technical blockers.
- Clearly document technical findings, dependencies, risks and recommendations.
- Take ownership of assigned work through to successful completion.
Essential Technical Skills
Must have:
- Strong hands-on Cypress experience.
- Strong TypeScript and/or JavaScript development skills.
- Strong automation framework design experience.
- End-to-end web application automation experience.
- REST API testing and automation.
- Experience using APIs/backend services for test-data setup.
- Strong Git / GitHub experience.
- GitHub Actions or comparable CI/CD pipeline experience.
- Experience troubleshooting tests that behave differently locally and in CI.
- Strong understanding of:
- selectors and locator strategies
- assertions
- asynchronous application behaviour
- synchronisation and retries
- fixtures and configuration
- reusable automation components
- flaky-test investigation
- Strong debugging and root-cause analysis skills.
Highly Desirable
- Node.js
- SQL/database validation
- OAuth 2.0 / OpenID Connect
- Automated authentication
- MFA/non-interactive authentication experience
- Synthetic test-data generation
- CI runner/network troubleshooting
- Integration testing across multiple enterprise applications
- Test reporting and pipeline artefacts
- Experience maintaining significant regression automation suites
Working Hours & Flexibility
This is important for this role.
- Must be available to start work from 9:00 am Melbourne time.
- Must also be comfortable collaborating with a New Zealand-based client.
- Flexibility is required for client meetings, technical workshops, troubleshooting sessions and delivery activities.
- Candidates working remotely or offshore must be comfortable aligning their working day with the required Australian/NZ collaboration window.
- Reliable attendance and responsiveness during agreed working hours are essential.
Soft Skills & Attitude
We're specifically looking for someone with a “can-do” attitude.
The successful person should be:
- Proactive – identifies issues and moves them forward rather than waiting to be told what to do.
- Accountable – takes ownership of problems through investigation and resolution.
- Flexible – comfortable switching between automation development, debugging, pipeline issues, test data and client discussions.
- Pragmatic – focuses on getting a reliable solution working rather than over-engineering.
- Curious – prepared to investigate unfamiliar systems and understand how things work.
- Client-friendly – able to communicate professionally with technical and non-technical client stakeholders.
- Collaborative – comfortable pairing with other engineers and participating in code reviews.
- Clear communicator – able to explain blockers, technical findings and recommendations without unnecessary complexity.
- Independent – capable of progressing work with limited supervision.
- Adaptable – comfortable operating in a project where requirements and technical findings may evolve during discovery.
- Solution-oriented – when something does not work, investigates alternatives rather than simply reporting the blocker.
