Synopsis
As a Senior Transport Planner, you will provide high-quality strategic transport planning, urban planning and design advice that supports Council’s vision for a connected, sustainable and liveable city. Working on a diverse range of city-shaping projects, you will contribute to the development of transport strategies, policies and initiatives that balance growth, movement and place outcomes.
This role plays a key part in guiding strategic transport outcomes, ensuring operational decisions align with broader transport network and land use objectives. You will manage and contribute to a range of projects, including transport planning initiatives, advocacy programs, education and safety projects, while supporting the delivery of key strategic priorities across the municipality.
Working closely with planners, engineers, urban designers and other stakeholders, you will provide advice on planning scheme reviews and land use policy, helping to identify and deliver the transport network changes needed to support future growth. You will also contribute to the ongoing development of Council’s transport modelling capabilities, undertake strategic research and analysis, and help drive continuous improvement across the branch.
Why join Team Melbourne?
Located on the traditional lands of the Bunurong Boon Wurrung and Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung peoples of the Kulin Nation, Melbourne is globally recognised as one of the most liveable, diverse, and dynamic cities.
At the heart of it all is the City of Melbourne – a passionate, purpose-driven organisation where your work truly matters. As part of Team Melbourne, you will help deliver what is most important to the people who live, work, study, visit and invest in our great city.
We are proud champions of diversity, committed to continuous improvement, and driven by a shared vision for a vibrant and sustainable future.
This is more than just a role – it is your chance to make a real impact, contribute to something bigger, and shape Melbourne’s future alongside a collaborative and forward-thinking team.
About You
You are a strategic thinker with experience in transport planning and a strong understanding of how transport networks influence urban development and community outcomes. You can confidently analyse complex issues, develop evidence-based recommendations and communicate technical information in a clear and practical way.
You bring experience delivering projects in a collaborative environment and are skilled at building productive relationships with a broad range of stakeholders. Your ability to balance strategic objectives with operational considerations allows you to contribute effectively to both long-term planning and project delivery. A proactive and adaptable approach, combined with strong analytical, project management and communication skills, will see you succeed in this role.
