Senior Underwriter
Endurance Warranty Services, LLCJOB SUMMARY : Endurance Warranty Services is seeking an Underwriter to join the Risk Management team. This role owns the ongoing monitoring of program and portfolio performance across Endurance's vehicle service contract (VSC) business, translating claims and contract data into clear findings, then converting those findings into pricing and corrective-action recommendations that protect loss ratio while supporting profitable growth. The ideal candidate brings three or more years of automotive underwriting experience along with two capabilities that are equally important to success here. The first is comfort owning partner-facing relationships: this role does not simply hand off findings, it carries them into conversations with sales leaders, and holds the follow-through on what was agreed. The second is genuine fluency with data: the ability to work directly in large transactional data sets, validate what the numbers say, and build reporting that holds up to scrutiny rather than waiting on someone else to produce it. This is a high-visibility individual contributor role with exposure to product development, actuarial pricing, reinsurance structures, and executive reporting. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Performance Monitoring & Reporting Maintain the recurring monitoring cadence for assigned programs, channels, and accounts, including loss ratio, claims frequency, severity, loss cost, and earned-to-incurred development. Produce monthly and quarterly performance reporting packages for internal leadership, dealer and agent partners, and carrier or reinsurance stakeholders. Track results against pricing assumptions and flag emerging deviations early, at the program, dealer, class, coverage, and term level. Partner with the analytics team to validate data sources, reconcile reporting outputs, and maintain consistency of definitions across recurring deliverables. Analysis & Insight Perform root-cause analysis on underperforming programs and accounts, isolating whether results are driven by mix, rating adequacy, claims administration, vehicle eligibility, term and mileage banding, or distribution behavior. Conduct segmentation and cohort analysis to identify profitable and unprofitable pockets within a book, including vehicle class, make and model, coverage level, deductible, and geography. Build and maintain the analytical templates and query logic used for recurring deep dives, and support ad hoc requests from executive leadership, product, and finance with quick, well-documented turnarounds. Corrective Action Recommendations Develop and present corrective-action recommendations, including rate adjustments, eligibility restrictions, coverage or term changes, surcharge application, commission or reserve adjustments, and account remediation or exit. Quantify the expected financial impact of each recommendation and document the supporting rationale for underwriting and leadership review. Work directly with sales and account management to communicate corrective actions, negotiate remediation plans, and set clear performance expectations with partners. Monitor post-implementation results to confirm whether actions produced the intended effect, and escalate when they did not. Program Pricing Support rate development and refresh cycles for new and existing programs, including loss-cost build-up, trend selection, expense and commission loads, and profit provision. Prepare and maintain rate cards, class guides, factor tables, and rating logic documentation, and validate that filed or contracted rates are implemented correctly in production systems. Price program modifications, custom dealer and agent requests, and new product concepts under the direction of the VP of Underwriting. Assist with competitive rate benchmarking and document positioning relative to market. Cross-Functional Partnership & Governance Serve as an underwriting point of contact for assigned accounts and programs, coordinating with sales, claims, product development, and IT. Support carrier, reinsurance, and audit requests with accurate, well-organized underwriting documentation. Contribute to underwriting guideline development, documentation standards, and process improvement. Other duties as assigned or as business needs arise. Required Qualifications Experience : Three or more years of automotive underwriting experience, ideally in vehicle service contracts, mechanical breakdown insurance, F&I products, or auto warranty administration. Partner engagement: Proven ability to own and sustain working relationships with dealer, agent, or distribution partners, including leading performance conversations, delivering unfavorable findings directly, negotiating remediation, and following through until results change. Data fluency: Hands-on command of large transactional data sets, including sourcing, validating, and reconciling data, resolving discrepancies independently, and building recurring reporting that stands up to internal and external review. Rigor: Discipline to trace any number back to its source and defend the methodology behind a recommendation. Technical: Advanced Excel, including pivot tables, lookup and dynamic array functions, and model construction. Working proficiency with a BI or query tool such as Power BI, SQL, or equivalent. Analytical: Ability to move from raw data to a defensible recommendation, and to explain the logic clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences. Communication : Clear, concise written and verbal communication, with comfort presenting findings to senior leadership and external partners. Preferred Qualifications Experience across multiple distribution channels, including dealer and direct-to-consumer, and understanding of VSC, Ancillary, GAP, and Insurance offerings. Familiarity with reinsurance structures, including CLIP, retro, and producer-owned reinsurance arrangements. Exposure to actuarial pricing methodology, loss development, and trend analysis. Experience with Excel, ability to learn DAX, Power Query, Python, or Power BI, and working knowledge of state regulatory and filing requirements for service contracts and MBI products. *The target compensation for this role falls is $120,000 annually + annual performance bonus.* PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Sitting or standing for extended periods; repetitive motions; use hands to handle equipment or controls; reach with hands and arms; typing on keyboard; viewing computer screen extended periods; speak clearly and hearing Regular use of typical office equipment, computer software, programs, and methods of communication such as a computer, e-mail, phone system, and messaging. In a remote work environment, being interactive and communicative with management and co-workers in a visible manner is an essential function of the job. Camera/video usage is required. Must be able to lift 25 pounds. Candidates must pass a pre-employment Background Check. Endurance is an E-Verify employer.
