LEAD UX DESIGNER | ADELAIDE | DEFENCE TECHNOLOGY
$140K – $150K + Super
Are you a UX Designer who wants to do more than produce screens?
This is an opportunity to lead the UX function within a growing Adelaide-based defence technology business, working on meaningful products where you can see the real-world impact of your work.
This is a leadership and product-focused UX role. They have talented software engineers and junior design capability already — what they need now is someone who can take ownership of the UX process and lift it to the next level.
What you’ll be doing:
- Lead UX across the product development lifecycle
- Conduct UX research and engage directly with end users
- Facilitate workshops and design-thinking activities
- Understand user needs and translate them into meaningful product experiences
- Work closely with Product Managers, Solution Architects and software engineers
- Establish and improve UX processes within an agile environment
- Collaborate with UI/design capability to turn UX thinking into great outcomes
- Engage with customers across the Australian Defence ecosystem, including Army, Navy and major Defence primes
This is NOT a Figma-heavy production role.
They are looking for someone who understands UX at a strategic and practical level — someone who can lead the thinking, research, facilitation and user engagement, rather than simply produce designs.
Why this opportunity?
You’ll be joining an engineering-led SME of around 70 people with a high-calibre technical team and a genuinely agile way of working.
The business is involved in significant Australian Defence programs, including Project LAND 156, the ADF’s major counter-drone capability initiative, as well as work with major Defence organisations and primes.
You’ll have the opportunity to work closely with the people building the technology and, importantly, see the outcomes of your work in the real world. They’re looking for someone who wants to be present, involved and influential — not lost in a large corporate structure.
What they’re looking for:
- Strong UX Design experience
- UX research and user-centred design capability
- Design thinking and workshop facilitation
- Experience working with end users and customers
- Ability to lead UX within an agile product environment
- Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills
- Confidence working with Product, Engineering and UI teams
- Defence, technology or complex engineering experience would be highly regarded
Location matters.
This is an Adelaide-based opportunity, with the team seeing the greatest value in having their UX leader working closely with the business. Expect approximately 3–4 days in the office, with some flexibility.
It’s a collaborative, safe and positive environment with a strong engineering culture — and an organisation keen to bring greater diversity of thinking into the team.
If you're an experienced Lead UX Designer, ready to take ownership, influence product direction and work on technology that genuinely matters, this could be an opportunity worth exploring.
