Ideon Technologies uses the energy from supernova explosions in space to image deep beneath the Earth’s surface. The world pioneer in cosmic-ray muon tomography, Ideon has developed the REVEAL™ Subsurface Intelligence Platform®, comprising an advanced suite of proprietary data-generation hardware, software, physical AI, and multi-physics fusion that provide x-ray-like visibility deep underground and unlock the exponential power of integrated spatial data.
By transforming muon data into reliable 3D density maps, Ideon helps geologists identify, map, characterize, and monitor mineral deposits with confidence. This reduces risk and cost of traditional methods, while saving time, optimizing return, and minimizing environmental impact across the mining value chain. In turn, this is helping accelerate the world’s transition to low-impact mining and transform how companies recover the critical minerals required to power the global shift to clean energy – improving peoples’ lives and enhancing economic prosperity.
We are a dynamic tech scale-up of 80 employees (and growing!). We are a team that is entrepreneurial by nature and focused on doing things right to deliver great customer outcomes. And we are committed to seeking out the best brains and the most exceptional humans, wherever they come from and however they happen to be packaged.
The Role
We are seeking a Senior UX Designer who excels at crafting intuitive, high-quality user experiences across a multi-faceted software platform, with high-impact interactivity and visual design that supports our brand. The ideal candidate is a hands-on user interaction designer who thrives at the intersection of creativity, technology, and strategy.
You will report to the VP, Product and work in a team setting with the product, engineering, customer service, and marketing teams. Working in a B2B environment, Ideon engages a limited number of large and influential mining clients worldwide, focusing on securing long-term, multi-site, deeply integrated workflow partnerships with these clients. Our growth comes from building trust and alignment, not from generating volumes of new subscriptions like many traditional SaaS companies do.
You will impact and drive Ideon’s objectives forward by focusing on the following activities:
- Leading UX research and discovery: Conduct and synthesize user interviews, surveys, and usability testing to uncover insights that drive product direction.
- Applying industry expertise: Analyze industry trends and best practices in mining technology to ensure regulatory compliance and data security within user flows.
- Driving end-to-end UX and UI design: Translate research insights into wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity designs for complex mining workflows.
- Collaborating cross-functionally: Partner with Product Managers and Engineering Team Leads from concept to delivery, ensuring design feasibility and implementation quality. Work with the marketing team to reflect visual identity and brand standards.
- Establishing and maintaining design systems: Build scalable design libraries and patterns tailored to mining applications.
- Validating through metrics: Use data and user feedback to measure success and inform design iterations.
- Staying ahead of trends: Keep up to date with evolving UX/UI tools, responsive app best practices, and design technologies.
Success in the role looks like:
- Usability excellence: Your designs perform well in usability testing. You maintain high task success rates and low user error rates, ensuring the product is intuitive and efficient.
- Strategic collaboration: You negotiate with stakeholders to balance user needs with technical constraints, business goals, and brand imperatives.
- System ownership: You help to evolve the company’s design system, contributing to an increase in development velocity and visual consistency across the product landscape.
- User advocacy: You use insights from research to challenge assumptions and prevent the team from building features that don't solve real problems.
- User empathy: You develop a deep appreciation for the operational friction and organizational silos our users face, designing product solutions that seamlessly navigate their real-world workflows.
Priorities in the first few months will include:
- Cultural integration: Building strong relationships with the product trio, understanding product development life cycle, and how UX/UI design activities fit into the workflow.
- Product fluency: Articulating a user’s core pain points and explaining the business logic behind existing design decisions without needing constant oversight.
- Tool and system proficiency: Becoming proficient in the team’s design system and file structures, ensuring your work is technically consistent with the existing brand. Recommend solutions to any identified gaps in tooling
- Active contribution: Transitioning from observing contributing, asking insightful questions and offering helpful perspectives.
- Small wins: Delivering incremental improvements that demonstrate your ability to execute from concept to code.
Qualifications
Must-haves – You’ll need the following to move forward in the hiring process (and be successful in the role).
- 5+ years of UX/UI design experience, including substantial ownership of user research and end-to-end design for complex web-based products.
- Diploma or degree in human-computer interaction (HCI), psychology, graphic design, or computer science, or equivalent combination of relevant training and experience.
- A strong portfolio demonstrating end-to-end UX/UI work, from discovery and wireframes through prototyping and polished visual design, with case studies showing how research and user insights informed design decisions.
- Solid grasp of user-centered design principles, UX research methods, and data-informed design decision-making.
- Demonstrated experience designing for web-based software platforms and responsive design principles.
- Proficiency with modern UX/UI design and prototyping tools using agentic AI.
- Strong ability to solve complex product problems by balancing user needs, technical constraints, business goals, and brand requirements.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and collaboration skills, with the ability to explain design decisions, incorporate feedback, and build alignment across cross-functional teams.
- Ability to produce clear research reports, design rationale, user flows, and design specifications that support cross-functional implementation.
- Legally authorized to work full-time in Canada.
We also look for the following from all new Ideon team members:
- Experience in or excitement for working in a tech scale-up; happy to wear a few hats and adjust on the fly.
- An ambitious, can-do attitude; you get that we’re doing challenging work and are excited to dive in.
- Enthusiastic and confident to take initiative and be adaptable in an agile, fast-paced environment.
- Solid teamwork skills; you’re accountable to yourself and your team and will jump in to help where you can.
- Creative solutioning mindset with great problem-solving skills.
- Insatiable curiosity paired with a drive to deliver.
- Able to work well under pressure and to meet committed deadlines.
- Great interpersonal skills; able to build relationships with colleagues, customers, and external stakeholders.
- Able to contribute something “extra” to our culture beyond the work that you do, like wowing people with your home-baked goods, sharing improv comedy skills, or organizing sports games.
Nice-to-haves – While it would be nice to if you had some of the below, we’re happy to train, coach and share our experience.
- Experience designing B2B products or working with complex enterprise workflows.
- Experience collaborating with product and engineering teams in an Agile environment and iterating designs throughout the product development lifecycle.
