POSITION FUNCTION:
The Senior Vice President (SVP) of Strategy & Transformation is a key member of the executive leadership team, responsible for defining, shaping, and driving the organization’s strategic vision and enterprise-wide transformation initiatives. This role partners closely with the Chief Development Officer and senior leaders to identify growth opportunities, optimize operational performance, and lead high-impact change across the business.
The position owns key strategic initiatives across the Office of Strategy and Transformation portfolio, managing teams and other AMSURG resources to drive individual projects to completion while building capabilities across the team and helping manage the department’s project portfolio. This individual plays a leading role in setting the capability strategy for the enterprise and establishing the longer-term growth and partnership strategy in partnership with other executive leadership.
The ideal candidate will be highly driven and have experience leading departments or organizations with high-stakes, high-visibility outcomes. The candidate must also have experience managing cross-functional teams and projects, strong communication and presentation skills, and the ability to think critically to resolve issues to move projects forward to meet target deadlines. Finally, the candidate should be passionate about building teams and organizations.
Primary Roles and Responsibilities Include:
• Report to the AMSURG CDO and participate in executive discussion sessions, recurring executive leadership meetings, etc. – including project-specific report-outs as appropriate• Provide long- and short-term strategic planning and problem-solving leadership across the organization, including by serving as strategic advisor to other members of executive leadership upon request
• Partner with other executive leaders, including the CEO, COO, and Business Development leader, to help develop and execute the multi-year enterprise strategy for AMSURG. This includes collaboration with internal and external stakeholders at multiple levels of seniority, including third-party partnerships, as they relate to growth and operations.
• Partner with Operations, Development, and other corporate functions to set/prioritize geography-level growth & portfolio strategies, as well as lead in their execution where necessary through analytical efforts, thought partnership, and or project management
• Oversee the building of the planning, coordination, and executive reporting capabilities
• Lead the company’s effort to become a high-performing organization, including the ability to effectively communicate strategies and priorities, manage interdependencies, and drive toward accountability and execution
• Support Board of Directors engagement & reporting for annual, quarterly, and ad hoc meetings in partnership with the General Counsel and other executive leadership as appropriate
• Directly lead the CDO’s enterprise priorities by managing the CDO’s Chief of Staff and facilitating ongoing executive governance, meetings, report-outs, etc.
• Lead the OST team in analyzing qualitative and quantitative data to inform project work and arrive at data-driven solutions
• Lead the OST team in synthesizing and communicating status updates and recommendations directly to AMSURG senior leadership
• Lead or support continuous improvement initiatives in operations and other verticals in support of continuous improvement & culture building within optimization.
• Maintain a growth mindset and solutions-oriented attitude, bringing a proactive approach to moving projects forward
• Develop and lead a tight-knit OST team to solve challenges at the department and enterprise level
• Design and initiate new projects, identifying enterprise needs and shaping the OST portfolio
• Develop the new Office of Strategy & Transformation into a high-performing, high-capacity team that can rapidly solve complex problems and drive forward key strategic initiatives for AMSURG
• Direct management and oversight of 6-9 positions in the OST, including coaching and mentorship of practical consulting frameworks. This will include appropriately matching projects to personnel, assessing strengths and weaknesses, managing and assessing performance, and, secondarily, assisting in career development for those direct reports
• Act as representative with external resources (i.e., consultants) as required
• Manage OST engagements – manage the working team, including overseeing individual workstreams (providing support and coaching when needed), drive the team and project towards deliverables and milestones, synthesize insights and identify critical questions for executive engagement, request and apply resources appropriate to each engagement, etc.
INTERFACES WITH:
Reporting to the Chief Development Officer, the Senior Vice President of Strategy and Transformation will work closely with the Transformation Office, AMSURG’s executive leadership team, and key stakeholders from Ascension.
CORE COMPETENCIES:
1) Strategy Consulting Experience: The ideal candidate will have 15-20 years of post-MBA professional experience including post-MBA management consulting experience at a top-tier strategy consulting firm and experience leading corporate strategy within the healthcare industry.
2) Relevant Industry Exposure: The ideal candidate will have direct experience and working knowledge of the healthcare provider market landscape. ASC experience a plus.
3) Relevant Functional Exposure: The ideal candidate will have experience across growth strategy, transformation, and operations strongly preferred. Ability to

execute, project manage, and implement across enterprise strategy will be critical to this person’s success.
4) Structured & Logical Thinking: Superior critical thinking skills are critical to this role, including the ability to identify and define problems, collect data, establish facts and demonstrate a “nose for value” to discern what is important and draw valid conclusions.
5) Analytical Aptitude: This person must possess the ability to run and manage highly complicated quantitative analysis in a defect-free manner to support strategic recommendations.
6) Team Leadership: The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated track record leading teams with strong upward feedback.
7) Education: A bachelor’s degree is required, and an MBA preferred. The right candidate will have exceptional academic credentials.

This professional must demonstrate strong leadership skills, best demonstrated by the individual’s ability to gain credibility with team members and senior management.
