The Role

We are looking for an experienced Senior VxWorks Developer to join a long-term embedded software development project, working on safety-critical systems.

The successful candidate will have strong experience in low-level embedded software development, with particular expertise in VxWorks, C programming and DO-178C. You will be involved in the design, development, testing and validation of embedded software for complex hardware environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop and validate embedded software, including Board Support Packages (BSPs) for custom and COTS hardware.
• Design, implement and test device drivers for embedded peripheral devices.
• Support hardware bring-up, testing and validation of custom embedded systems.
• Develop high-quality C code within safety-critical environments.
• Produce detailed software design and technical documentation.
• Troubleshoot complex embedded software and hardware integration issues.
• Contribute to technical planning, effort estimation and project delivery.
• Work closely with engineering teams and technical stakeholders.
• Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior engineers where required.

Essential Experience

• 7+ years' software development experience, including at least 5 years working with DO-178C.
• Strong understanding of DO-178C, ideally including DAL A certification environments.
• Strong commercial experience with VxWorks.
• Excellent C programming skills.
• Strong experience developing BSPs and device drivers.
• Experience with low-level embedded software development, debugging and troubleshooting.
• Experience with embedded processor architectures such as PowerPC, MIPS, x86 or ARM.
• Experience with embedded development environments such as Workbench or Eclipse.
• Experience supporting custom embedded hardware bring-up.
• Ability to work independently and troubleshoot complex technical problems.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Desirable Experience

• Multi-core and virtualisation architectures.
• Simics.
• Safety-critical software certification projects.
• Linux embedded development.
• Experience working directly with customers or distributed engineering teams.

Qualifications

• Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electronics Engineering or another relevant technical discipline preferred.
• Ability to travel to customer sites occasionally if required.
