Fingerprint empowers enterprises to detect and stop online fraud with the world’s most accurate device intelligence. We lead our industry with bleeding-edge identification capabilities and work on turning new ideas and discoveries in the fraud detection space into reality. Our customers range from innovative startups to leading enterprise companies, including Plaid, Dropbox, and Booking.com.
Fingerprint is a globally dispersed, 100% remote company. We were named on on the 2026 Forbes Best Startup Employers list and ranked #803 on the 2026 Inc. 5000 list of America’s fastest-growing private companies.
We have raised $77M and are backed by Craft Ventures (Tesla, Facebook, Airbnb ), Nexus Venture Partners ( Postman, Apollo.io, MinIO, Druva) and Uncorrelated Ventures ( Redis, Rollbar, Gradle).
We are looking for a Senior Web Browser Researcher to push the accuracy and stability of Fingerprint's core identification and fraud-detection products. You'll independently discover, validate, and drive to production new device-identification and bot-detection techniques in modern web browsers — owning findings from first signal through engineering implementation. This role suits someone who thrives on deep, open-ended research into JavaScript, Web APIs, and browser internals, and who cares as much about whether a finding ships and moves the metric as about finding it.
Responsibilities
- Independently research novel device-identification, visitor-identification, Smart Signals, and bot-detection techniques across modern browsers, thriving where requirements are not fully defined.
- Own findings end to end: assess whether a signal is genuinely actionable within real-world constraints (performance budget, execution context, same-site and proxy implications, interaction with existing signals), back the assessment with data, and deliver a clear recommendation with impact estimates (expected false-positive/false-negative rates, expected improvement, limitations, and trade-offs) that product and engineering can act on.
- Stay engaged through implementation — review engineering's changes against the research intent, answer questions as they surface, and advise on edge cases the write-up couldn't fully specify.
- Build and maintain research tooling (observers, fuzzers, scrapers) that surfaces new signals and detects browser platform changes automatically, rather than relying on manual investigation.
- Track browser changes ahead of release — following beta/canary/dev channels and spec/RFC discussions — and translate them into product impact and action.
- Produce and share structured, actionable research articles and outputs — internal write-ups, articles for product and engineering, proofs of concept, and experimental signal implementations with their analyses — written so partners can act on them directly.
Requirements
- Deep understanding of web platform fundamentals, browser internals, and web security concepts.
- Strong proficiency in JavaScript, and the ability to read, comprehend, and navigate code across multiple programming languages.
- Solid grasp of web networking fundamentals.
- Proven ability to uncover and explain undocumented behavior of web technologies, APIs, and protocols through testing, debugging, and reverse engineering — researching in depth without leaving blank spots.
- Track record of independently driving research from idea to a validated, actionable result, including designing and running experiments against real traffic and analyzing large-scale data.
- Recognized depth in at least one area (e.g., reverse engineering, network-related research, or identification), with working breadth across adjacent areas.
- Clear communication of findings, impact, and trade-offs to engineering and product partners.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience building research and automation tooling (scrapers, fuzzers, observers).
- Track record of submitting issues to Chromium, Firefox, or WebKit bug trackers.
- Experience and interest in backend development (we use Go at Fingerprint).
- Familiarity with anti-fingerprinting approaches and how they are applied across browsers and extensions.
- A public research footprint — conference talks, blog posts, CVEs, or open-source contributions.
As a Senior Web Browser Researcher at Fingerprint, you will shape cutting-edge technology with direct impact on our core products, and help raise the bar for the research team through mentorship, peer review, and public thought leadership. We value innovation, collaboration, and personal growth.
Compensation & Transparency
At Fingerprint, we believe in pay transparency — it's part of how we operate as a distributed, remote-first team. Salaries are based on function, level, and geographic location, benchmarked against similar stage growth companies.
Because this role is open across the United States and can be based anywhere our team members work from, the salary range reflects that geographic breadth: $174k - $235k
Some example salaries for specific locations are below:
NYC: $204k - $235k
Chicago: $174k - $200k
London: $143k - $165k
Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors, including the successful candidate's location, experience, and expertise, and may vary from the amounts listed above.
Due to regulatory and security reasons, there’s a small number of countries where we cannot have Fingerprint teammates based. Additionally, because Fingerprint is an all-remote company and people can join our workforce from almost any country, we do not sponsor visas. Fingerprint teammates need to be authorized to work from their home location.
We are dedicated to creating an inclusive work environment for everyone. We embrace and celebrate the unique experiences, perspectives and cultural backgrounds that each employee brings to our workplace. Fingerprint strives to foster an environment where our employees feel respected, valued and empowered, and our team members are at the forefront in helping us promote and sustain an inclusive workplace. We highly encourage people from underrepresented groups in tech to apply.

**We have noticed a rise in recruiting impersonations across the industry, where scammers attempt to access candidates' personal and financial information through fake interviews and offers.
