Senior/Lead CA Gen Engineer - Mainframe Modernization (Remote)

We are looking for a Senior or Lead Engineer with deep CA Gen (Broadcom Gen, COOL: Gen, CoolGen) expertise to join an established team of 15–20 engineers on a large-scale mainframe modernization initiative. You will help rebuild legacy applications and eliminate dependency on CA Gen and mainframe technology, translating deep model and code knowledge into detailed specifications that drive forward-engineering of modern replacement systems. This is a 100% remote role with no on-call support required. Both Senior- and Lead-level candidates will be considered.

Responsibilities

• Analyze existing CA Gen models, runtime framework, and generated COBOL code to understand legacy application logic and behavior
• Create detailed technical specifications from legacy CA Gen-based applications to support forward-engineering of replacement systems
• Collaborate with the team to design and validate migration approaches from CA Gen/mainframe to modern platforms
• Support reverse-engineering efforts, ensuring business logic and rules are accurately captured and preserved
• Partner with architects and developers to align legacy system behavior with new application design
• Identify risks, gaps, and edge cases within legacy CA Gen models during the modernization process
• Contribute to documentation of legacy system architecture, data flows, and dependencies
• Participate in knowledge-sharing sessions to transfer CA Gen and COBOL expertise across the team

Requirements

• 5+ years of hands-on experience with CA Gen (Broadcom Gen, COOL: Gen, CoolGen), including runtime framework and model internals
• 5+ years of COBOL software development experience
• Strong understanding of CA Gen-generated COBOL code
• Proven experience with mainframe application modernization or migration projects
• Ability to translate legacy application logic into clear, detailed specifications for modern system replacement
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with legacy codebases
• Excellent communication skills for cross-functional collaboration

Nice to have

• Experience with CICS, Db2, VSAM, or IMS DB
• Familiarity with Java
• Familiarity with C#
• Familiarity with AWS
