Interested in a career that matters?

Are you ready for a new beginning? We need your talent, knowledge and dedication to better our world with biology.

In Novonesis, we know that solutions rooted in biology can help solve humanity’s biggest challenges. Since we began more than a century ago, this has been our guide. It’s how we’ve gotten so far. And it’s how we’ll impact the future. Now, more than ever, the world needs change. And with biosolutions, the possibilities for transformation are endless.

Join us as our new Toxicologist (Scientist).

As a Senior/Principal Scientist in the Toxicology department, your background may stem from different areas within the life sciences. What matters most is your deep toxicological expertise, your interest in biological solutions, and your ability to apply your knowledge to help ensure the safety of our products.

The Toxicology department is part of Global Product Safety, comprising approximately 50 colleagues across four departments. Together, we have global responsibility for the safety of Novonesis products across a wide range of industries, including food, plant protection, household care, and many others. We collaborate with internal stakeholders and customers around the world and contribute to all parts of Novonesis’ diverse product portfolio. We are also committed to advancing animal welfare through initiatives such as 3R, NAMs, and NGRA.

You will join a supportive team of eight scientists and one laboratory technician. We believe that thriving is key to unlocking potential, and we will help you develop in the role while providing opportunities to broaden and deepen your toxicological expertise across a wide range of biosolutions.

The role & your impact

As a Senior/Principal Scientist in Toxicology, you will play a key role in ensuring the human health and environmental safety of Novonesis products. You will provide scientific expertise to product development projects, support global regulatory registrations, conduct safety assessments, and contribute to strategic safety initiatives across our portfolio.

Your key responsibilities in this role

  • Provide toxicology and ecotoxicology expertise to support the development of Novonesis products and candidates, including enzymes, proteins, and microorganisms.
  • Support safety strategies and registrations for conventional and microbial plant protection products, while engaging with regulatory authorities globally.
  • Contribute to human health and environmental safety strategies across different product types and application areas.
  • Conduct toxicological safety evaluations and risk assessments.
  • Act as sponsor monitor for toxicological in vivo and in vitro studies conducted by contract research organizations (CROs).
  • Support regulatory activities related to REACH substance registrations and other safety-related requirements.

What you’ll need to be successful in this role

  • MSc, PhD, DVM, or equivalent degree in life sciences, combined with strong experience in toxicology, preferably including ecotoxicology and plant protection product risk assessment.
  • Strong understanding of human health and environmental safety assessment principles, with the ability to apply scientific expertise to complex challenges.
  • Ability to develop and execute scientific and regulatory strategies within a complex, international environment.
  • Strong collaboration, stakeholder management, and communication skills, including excellent written and spoken English.
  • A constructive, solution-oriented mindset, intellectual curiosity, and a passion for continuous learning and development.

Additional skills & interests we value

Experience working with global regulatory frameworks for plant protection products would be an advantage. Knowledge of REACH substance registration requirements, including experience with ECHA processes and IUCLID, is also highly valued. We are particularly interested in candidates who have an interest in alternative testing strategies such as NAMs and NGRA and who are motivated by advancing innovative approaches to safety assessment. Experience in mentoring colleagues, sharing expertise, and contributing to the development of scientific capabilities within a team and across the organization is considered a strong asset.

What we offer you
