Reporting: Head of CRO
Location: Remote
The Role
We’re looking for a Shopify CRO Developer to join our growing CRO team. You build the sections, modules and landing pages our conversion work ships as. A designer hands you a finished page as HTML, and you turn it into reusable, client editable Liquid running on a live store. Along the way you’ll contribute to Growth Shop’s growth and culture.
This is a CRO developer rather than a general Shopify developer. The output is components that get reused, wired to real data, shipped continuously against live conversion work. AI tools now cover much of the translation from HTML to Liquid. They don’t cover knowing which part of a theme you are about to break, or how to structure a section so it survives being reused twenty times. That judgement is the job.
What’s in it for you
- Hands-on experience: you own the build end to end, from a designer’s HTML through section architecture and data modelling to a published theme, across up to ten DTC accounts.
- Global exposure: work with colleagues across multiple regions and time zones, supporting a diverse, international workforce.
- Growth opportunities: develop your expertise in Shopify theme architecture, conversion focused development and AI assisted coding within a fast-scaling, performance-driven environment.
- Learning environment: work directly with the Head of CRO, and get access to professional development resources.
- Culture-first team: be part of a company that values curiosity, creativity and collaboration, and backs it with real people-first initiatives.
Benefits
We don’t do one-size-fits-all. Benefits at Growth Shop are built around our people’s actual lives, across six areas:
- Family: enhanced parental leave and support designed around real family life.
- Time off: generous, flexible holiday that genuinely encourages you to switch off and recharge.
- Wellbeing: mental health and wellbeing support, because “Happier” is one of our core values, not a poster.
- Life solutions: practical perks that make day-to-day life run smarter.
- Grow with us, real investment in your development: learning budget, clear progression, and ownership of high-spend accounts from early on.
- Force for good: time and support to give back and create change beyond the business.
- You’d join a team that works Smarter, Faster, Happier: fast feedback loops, real ownership over spend, and the chance to see your decisions move a brand’s trajectory in weeks.
Responsibilities
1. Architecture & Planning
- Read a design before building it. Work out which parts are reusable, what belongs in a schema and what should be hardcoded, so the section serves the next ten pages rather than just this one.
- Model the content. Decide where data lives, using metafields and metaobjects so pages stay dynamic and editable in admin.
- Map how the systems connect on each account. Which app owns which data, what is reachable in Liquid against what needs a script or an API call, and what breaks if something is swapped out.
2. Execution & Delivery
- Build sections, modules and landing pages from designs, as Online Store 2.0 components with schemas a client can actually use.
- Build what does not fit inside a theme, such as quizzes, configurators and small tools, hosted on Vercel or similar and embedded back into the store.
- Use AI to write HTML and Liquid at pace, and review what it produces rather than shipping it unread.
- Support a pod covering up to ten accounts, at around twenty units of work a month. Most of that is iteration on existing sections, which only works because the section libraries carry the repeatable parts.
3. Collaboration & Communication
- Work in a pod with a Landing Page Designer and an account manager. The designer decides what the page argues, writes it and designs it, then hands you working HTML.
- Raise a problem with a design before building it, not after. A structural issue caught at handover costs minutes rather than a rebuild.
- Hand finished pages to technical QA, fix what comes back, then publish. The account manager presents to the client, so you won’t run client delivery calls.
4. Quality & Standards
- Deploy safely on stores taking real orders. Unpublished themes, version control, and nothing published without QA.
- Hold page weight and render blocking. These are conversion pages, so performance is a conversion problem rather than a technical one.
- Maintain the section library per account and add to it, so the fifth page assembles from what exists instead of being rebuilt.
5. Measurement & Improvement
- Treat live pages as ongoing work. Most accounts are long-running, so pages are measured and iterated, not shipped once and left.
- Track what comes back from QA. By day 60 the structural issues should have largely stopped.
- Look honestly at anything that broke in production, work out how it got through, and change the approach so it cannot happen the same way twice.
Requirements
- Must be able to overlap at least four hours a day with EST business hours (non-negotiable).
- Deep Shopify theme development. Not editing sections someone else built: the architecture end to end, covering templates, layouts, sections, blocks, snippets, settings schema, and how the theme editor behaves for the person using it.
- Metafields and metaobjects as a primary tool, and a clear understanding of how data reaches a page through dynamic sources and references, including where Liquid can and cannot reach.
- High fluency using AI to write HTML and Liquid. This is a core tool here, not an experiment. We don’t ask for a degree or a set number of years.
- Demonstrable work taking a design or an HTML page and shipping it as a reusable section on a live store.
- Comfortable hosting small web apps on Vercel, Netlify or similar, and embedding them back into a storefront.
- JavaScript and CSS without leaning on a framework, since theme work rarely gives you one.
- Experience of large catalogues, split testing tools, integrating upsell, personalisation, email or subscription apps, and Hydrogen or headless work is a plus. Design, copywriting and client facing work are not required.
Skills you bring
- Highly organised and reliable with a sharp eye for detail.
- Strong communicator and approachable team player.
- Curious, adaptable, and motivated to learn.
- Comfortable working across time zones in a distributed team.
- Able to work inside a designer’s intent and raise concerns about it professionally.
